The Skunk Works (Lockheed Martin Advanced Development Programs) and Engineering & Technology are looking for world class talent in mission systems software to serve as the Foundational Technology Mission Software Program Manager.

The Mission Software Program Manager is a unique position that blends technical competency in software engineering with programmatic leadership to drive future technology vision and prioritize investments. This role drives future concepts for the Skunk Works capabilities in the areas of Battle Management Command & Control (BMC2), autonomy, mission planning, and software architectures (web technologies, micro-services, etc). This role is responsible for providing comprehensive, integrated, and executable technical solutions supporting both manned and unmanned aircraft system development, particularly focused on mission software. The manager will guide the execution of internal and contract-based research and development funding, coordinate vision and hold briefings to senior leadership, and develop relationships both internally with LM transition partner programs and externally with Government customers.

What You Will Be Doing


This position is within the Mission Systems Roadmaps (MSR) Foundational Technology organization. The greater Foundational Technology leadership team is responsible for the open architecture standards, common core processing hardware and middleware, advanced data links and communications, advanced algorithms, and BMC2 mission software roadmaps for maturing novel technologies to enhance platforms across the Aeronautics enterprise.

Responsibilities also include:
  • Program staffing for the Mission Software Portfolio (re assignments and placements)
  • Programmatic and Technical execution of the Mission Software Portfolio IRAD and CRAD projects, and research and business pursuits
  • Developing technology roadmaps and providing strategic guidance for all Mission Software technology related areas
  • Identify, pursue and manage internal and customer sponsored research and development programs
  • Interface with LM Aero, other LM business units, and external customers and suppliers to develop new technologies and transition them to LM Aero programs
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to LM senior management and external customers;

Who You Are


The successful candidate will lead a high-performing multiprogram team and must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic, time‐management, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must have demonstrated effective communication skills as the position will require frequent inter organizational and outside customer interactions. The ability to travel on occasion for team interaction and customer engagements is required. Knowledge of various open architecture initiatives in both airborne and ground-based environments is desired (e.g. Open Mission Systems, etc). Experience with all phases of the Software Engineering Process from requirements generation, through development, integration, and test is desired. Experience with DevOps process and tools is highly desired. Experience with autonomy especially as applied to aircraft control is highly desired. The individual will need to be a proven leader with previous skills and experience managing similar groups of software engineers across multiple locations.


You will need to be a US Citizen, and be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD SECRET clearance, to support this government contract, as well as successfully pass a drug and background check, in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.


Basic Qualifications:


Degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education

Experience in Program Management/ Project Management/ Project Engineering

Experience developing software architectures and products for a variety of programs

Experienced with a technical background in software engineering

Desired Skills:


Familiarity with tactical Battle Management Command & Control (BMC2) and/or mission planning

Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) and autonomy

Strong presentation skills including ability to convey focused messages to internal senior leadership and external customers

Experience leading a team following the Agile/DevOps process (preferably Scrum)

Familiarity with open architecture standards specifically Open Mission Systems (OMS)

Experienced leading multi-site team/s

Software development experience with object oriented design, service oriented architecture design, and/or web architectures

Integration and test experience with large complex software systems
