Job Description


Assists the Quality Assurance Specialist to maintain the quality control model designed to ensure continuous production of products that consistently meet and exceed internal and customer requirements. Engages in continuous improvement activities and applies lean six sigma methodologies. Performs metallurgical evaluations and compiles technical reports for incoming raw material, in-process samples and non-conforming product. Directs the Quality Assurance Technicians and engages in inspection and testing activities. Assumes responsibilities of Quality Assurance Specialist in their absence. Reports to Operations Manager and Manager of Quality Assurance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews daily production shop paperwork and assures finished work/products meet internal quality standards and specifications. Assists Quality Assurance Specialist with disposition in the event of nonconforming product. Files completed shop paperwork.
  • Performs daily inspections, quality checks and layered audits of the production process (wastewater, cleaning house, wire drawing, testing, galvanizing, stranding, etc.).
  • Updates and revises work instructions as necessary.
  • Reviews and signs off on raw material certifications/MTRs per internal specifications. Directly communicates with suppliers and attends technical meetings.
  • Oversees incoming raw material testing and inspection.
  • Compiles and submits raw material claims.
  • Reviews and approves raw material waiver and deviation requests.
  • Performs biannual supplier review.
  • Evaluates and provides quality disposition for internal/external non-conformances. Utilizes Salesforce to report findings, open corrective actions and close cases. Generates and files quality tracking reports (CAR/PAR, FMEA, 8D, etc.).
  • Maintains calibration of equipment.
  • Metallurgical preparation/reporting of samples:
    • customer claims
    • non-conforming product and-or wire breaks from sister facilities
    • incoming rod and patented stock
    • in-process and finished goods
  • Maintains metallographic equipment.
  • Prepares samples for 3rd party testing (physical, chemical, EDS and SEM analysis).
  • Assist Quality Assurance Specialist to maintain ISO 9001: 2015 requirements.
  • Involved with all quality and production improvement projects for the Chillicothe facility.
  • Must exhibit and proactively motivate others in the behaviors of the WireCo Business System (WBS).
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Operations Manager and Manager of Quality Assurance.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Metallurgical or Materials Science engineering preferred. Related field or equivalent education and work experience required.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Autodesk Inventor or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001 and API Q1 standards.
  • Familiarity with ERPs and data collection databases.
  • Experience in functional testing and technical case reporting.
  • Proficient with metallographic equipment and sample preparation.

Materials and Equipment Directly Used

  • Standard office equipment including computer, mouse, keyboard, telephone, multifunction copier
  • Production equipment including pliers, bolt cutters, wire pointers, abrasion saw, butt-welders, etc.
  • Testing equipment including tensile and torsion machines, micrometers, calipers, etc.
  • Personal protective equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed safety shoes.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Additional Information
  • Required to complete ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Manufacturing certifications within first year of employment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including verification of past employment, criminal history and educational background.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a post-offer drug screen and physical (if required)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
