Medical Records Coding Specialist

The Coder is a key member of the Northstar Behavioral Health Team who is responsible for assigning codes to medical procedures and diagnoses.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Making sure that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations.
• Receive and review patient’s charts and documents for verification and accuracy.
• Account for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements and complications.
• Research and analyze data needs for reimbursement.
• Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies.
• Reviews and verifies documentation supports diagnoses, procedures and treatment results.
• Identifies diagnostic and procedural information.
• Audits clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes.
• Assigns codes for reimbursements, research and compliance with regulatory requirements utilizing guidelines.
• Identifies discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues.
• Researches, analyzes, recommends, and facilitates plan of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors.
• Identifies reportable elements, complications, and other procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent;
• Credentialing as a Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.18 per hour
