Description of Medical Director Duties
The Medical Director is responsible for select business and operational functions of the SVH ambulatory clinics. The Medical Director will work in a dyad partnership with the Clinic Manager to coordinate and implement strategic improvements and maximize operational efficiencies in coordination with SVH administration and in support of the SVH strategic plan. The Medical Director and Clinic Manager will work together to ensure the delivery of excellent, patient-centered care. The Medical Director and Clinic Manager will ensure safe-working conditions and ensure that employees are well informed regarding relevant strategy, direction, current issues, and management response to those issues. They will establish a working culture that reflects the vision, mission, leadership principles and and values of SVH.
Scope of Care
The Medical Director of Ambulatory Care and Experience will oversee District clinic-based care to include, primary care, urgent care, behavioral health, and outpatient subspecialty care.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver high quality, compassionate healthcare to those in need, in a manner that is consistent with the mission of the District.Ensure an exceptional customer service experience.
- Ensure quality of care provided by Clinics team, with respect to medical services.
- Develop clinic provider culture of engagement and accountability.
- Develop robust peer review process in accordance with RHC guidelines and best practices.
- Oversee clinic documentation integrity. Incorporate concepts of appropriate billing protocols for medical services rendered into standardized clinic documentation. Perform quarterly and ad hoc documentation peer review.
- Providing annual performance reviews for ambulatory providers in accordance with SVH policy and procedures.
- Collaborates with the CMO and Clinic Manager and Human Resources to onboard/evaluate/exit and address employee relation issues involving providers or other staff.
- In collaboration with Chief Medical Officer and Executive team, recruit new providers to the clinics team.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures that ensure the highest quality and value care specific to the Clinic setting in collaboration with colleagues and team.
- Organize and support trainings for Clinic team in coordination with Clinic Manager.
- Monitor and ensure that patient care and satisfaction meet or exceed District quality standards.
- Participate in the resolution of patient and provider complaints and enhancement of patient and provider satisfaction as measured by regular surveys.
- Functions and participates as a member of appropriate SVH committees as requested by the CMO to include:
- Quality committee monthly
- SafetyZone committee monthly
- P&T committee monthly
- Investigate and respond to SafetyZones regarding the Clinics in coordination with Clinic Manager.
- Work with Clinic Manager and Director of Engagement and Strategic Communications to assist in the coordination and dissemination of information regarding Provider Services in the local community to the extent allowable by applicable laws and regulations.
- Participate in community outreach activities at the request of District and as mutually agreed by the parties.
- Support and maintain provider schedule for clinics.
- Clinical care duties as described below.
- Ensure clinic survey and regulatory readiness and compliance, in partnership with the Clinic Manager.
- Serves as SVH content expert of all applicable regulations and standards to ensure SVH compliance with the policies, procedures, and relevant legal requirements to include Medicaid, Medicare and HIPPA.
- Partners with the Clinic Manager and Administration to co-develop and co-manage budgeted monthly/annual financial performance of the clinics to achieve patient satisfaction, quality, revenue, and net margin goals.
- Works with the other Operational Managers and Directors in the organization to develop a leadership culture that is high-functioning and patient-centered.
- Additional duties, within reason, as directed by Chief Medical Officer.
Clinical Care Duties
The Medical Director will provide clinical care to achieve a target of 50 percent of median productivity of that of a 1.0 FTE clinician. Productivity will ramp up gradually to this target over the first year of employment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Master’s degree and active Washington State provider license.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Doctoral degree in Medicine. Completion of courses from an accredited School of Medicine and completion of residency program accredited to U.S. standards.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
10+ years provider experience
5+ years Medical Director experience
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
10+ years licensed practicing MD/DO
5+ years with Leadership Experience at level of clinic medical director or higher
Adept at change management and developing patient focused team and culture
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Washington State license to practice as a physician.
Board Certified preferred
BLS Certification
ACLS required

The Medical Director shares joint accountability with their dyad partner for attainment of financial performance targets.
