Job description
The Meadow River Valley Association (MRVA)’s mission is to “promote community collaboration and economic development in the Meadow River Valley.” It is an outgrowth of the long-term disaster recovery committee established after the 2016 floods. Working in close cooperation with the local economic development corporation—recovery committee leadership recognized that the back end of disaster recovery is community development. MRVA was subsequently incorporated in 2018 with recovery committee leadership assuming leadership roles in the Association. It is certified as a Blueprint Community organization. MRVA and its partners are helping establish a rail trail between Greenbrier and Fayette counties West Virginia; taking ownership and renovation of the Meadow River Community Park; coordinating and sponsoring a summer home repair program in Greenbrier County; repurposing a vacant elementary school campus to provide increased emergency services, childcare and early childhood learning, youth recreation/senior wellness programs, volunteer housing, opening of a county family support center, and the renovation of a 1940’s era school building to provide a medical clinic and low-income senior housing. MRVA is the connective tissue within the campus; between the campus and the other organizations and communities in the Valley; and between the Valley and other external organizations and agencies working in the Valley. MRVA and our partners are drawn together by shared need and opportunity. We work collaboratively to address need, build capacity, increase resiliency, and promote economic development in our valley. The VISTA's efforts will increase the capacity of MRV communities to create economic opportunities, add new jobs, and increase community self-sufficiency by supporting the development and executing of an opportunity tour initiated by Valley Works Resource Center, MRVA, Community Connections, Inc., and additional partners.

Activities that the member will conduct include: - Supporting planning and execution of the MRVOT by identifying potential Project properties, partners, and donations; helping estimate property improvement costs and coordinating donation deliveries and inventory. - Identifying capacity-building training and program participation opportunities for community partners by networking with partners to identify needs and strengths. - Expanding MRVA’s network of community partners and facilitating partner collaboration and coordination. - Planning semi-annual “Good News” events to facilitate partner collaboration and community awareness of positive developments in the area. - Refining and expand the MRV Volunteer Coordination program for implementation by MRVA to build opportunity tours to drive local investment. - Creating a Volunteer Recognition Program.
