The Calhoun County Public Health Department is recruiting a nurse leader to supervise Maternal Child Health (MCH). The ideal candidate will be outgoing in their desire to increase the MCH footprint in the community and enjoy mentoring a team of nurses and support staff. Under the direction of the Community Public Health Director, supervises and participates in the development, organization, and implementation of the various maternal child programs including Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) and Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS).Develops, conducts, and evaluates programs including directing professional and support staff who provide services and provide program-related community outreach to improve the community’s health.
- Assist Community Public Health Director in supervising assigned staff including hiring, staff development, coaching, performance evaluations, and discipline.
- Ensure program structures, plans, and processes are met and consistent with program, local, State, and Federal regulations (including HIPAA) and adhere to established policies and principles of risk management; implements efficient practices to develop and maintain quality services.
- Ensure minimum program requirements and Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation standards, when appropriate, are met.
- Assist Community Public Health Director in ensuring program services, policies, and procedures are up-to-date and meet all State and/or Federal mandates and regulations and meet current standard of practice.
- Monitor nursing practice and ensures opportunities for nursing and program-specific continuing education.
- Maintain and develop relationships and work collaboratively with staff, service providers, and community partners on planning and resource development efforts.
- Work collaboratively with and provide input to staff responsible for administrative issues such as billing, reporting, purchasing, and participant flow.
- Perform program outreach to inform community members and families of and recruit clients to programs.
- Work collaboratively on planning and resource development efforts internally and in the community.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and implement program promotion including advertising, public relations, and presentations.
- Maintain communication with program and State consultants for program implementation, development, and evaluation including auditing programs.
- Communicate with Medical Director as needed for revision and approval of clinical practices.
- Participate in team and general staff meetings.
- Participate in public health quality programs (e.g., Quality Improvement, Quality Assurance, Quality Control).
- Participation in emergency exercises and training required.
- Assess own needs for professional growth and participates in education that increases knowledge and skills in area of responsibilities.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures and maintains client confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Michigan.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Nursing, Master’s preferred.
- One to three years of program management, preferably in Nurse-Family Partnership®, maternal or child health, public health, or home visiting or comparable combination of experience, education, and training; including supervisory experience with skills necessary to effectively manage the daily operations and administration of programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills.
- Ability to multi-task simultaneous projects requiring concentration and attention to detail with frequent distractions due to people and/or telephone calls.
- Frequently required to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines and dealing with concerned citizens or employees.
- A valid Michigan driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and a personal vehicle including proof of insurance are required.

Flexible Scheduling & Telecommuting Options Depending on Position & Department
