Responsibilities
- Provides leadership as a role model in developing and implementing the team concept of patient care delivery.
- Maintains a high level of customer service through excellent communication skills and patient advocacy.
- Works independently with limited direct supervision in accordance with the Iowa Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, patient care standards, and professional judgment.
- Assumes accountability for the managing of patient care delivery in the Medical Imaging Department.
- Responsible for day-to-day operation of department nursing personnel including: staffing, scheduling, equipment needs, patient needs, as well as physician and staff needs/requests.
- Accountable for understanding and complying with department budget.
- Responsible for collaborating and leading physicians and staff through changes in process, policy, and protocol.
- Demonstrates leadership skills in quality improvement activities including performance improvement processes to facilitate clinical practice changes.
- Responsible for performance reviews with assistance of department director on an on-going basis as well as annually.
- Maintains clinical competencies to serve as mentor to staff and as a clinical resource to patient care personnel.
- Provides planning for and maintains appropriate educational opportunities. Ensures staff is competent in patient care skills for the Medical Imaging Department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required. If actively pursuing degree, BSN or related field required depending on progress into the degree. Those who have completed degree in a related field will be grandfathered in. Expected to take at least six credits per year at Department Director's discretion for exception. Alternative educational preparation may be considered by the Department Director to meet the individual needs of the department.
- Three years of R.N. experience.
- Licensed by the State of Iowa as an R.N.
- Specialty certification within 12 months of degree or employment.
- ACLS certification within 12 months (Critical Care and Telemetry).
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: (Constant = 67-100% of workday, Frequent = 34-66% of workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday)

through oral communication and to make tine discrimination sounds, such as auscultating and percussing.
- Repetitive Motions: substantial movements (motions)of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
FREQUENT:
- Balancing: maintaining equilibrium to prevent falling when assisting patients with activity.
- Stooping: bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist (for example, emptying suction canisters that are below waist level or obtaining supplies form low shelves).
- Kneeling: bending legs at knee to come to a rest or kneel.
- Pushing: using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag or haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Pulling: using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Grasping: applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Feeling: perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips and palms.
OCCASIONAL:
- Climbing: stairs, stools, ramps
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
