Machinist Co-op/Trainee

Position Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to complement formal machine tool education by providing developmental opportunities in an advanced, industrial manufacturing environment. Co-ops typically will experience the problem analysis, design, manufacturing and assembly phases for projects. Co-ops have an opportunity to apply their technical training in an industrial environment working as an integral part of a manufacturing team during planning, manufacturing, documentation, and assembly of ongoing projects. Co-ops will develop a broad understanding of the manufacturing practices necessary to support the manufacture and assembly of high speed automated equipment.

Position Description:

This position manufactures and assembles products that meet or exceed customer quality expectations at the lowest total delivered cost. Working under the direction of experienced tradesmen, the co-op is expected to demonstrate growth in their knowledge and skill of the machine tool trade. As part of the overall experience, co-ops may be exposed to and work in other areas of our business including but not limited to engineering design, fabrication, assembly, additive manufacturing, warehouse/logistics, planning and other administrative processes.

Principal Accountabilities:

Qualifications

Candidates should be currently enrolled in a machine tool program at a post-secondary institution or a shop program at a secondary school. This position requires strong mathematical and computer skills along with high mechanical aptitude and strong problem solving capabilities. Previous machine shop experience is a plus but not required.

Schedule

10 – 30 hours per week, Monday - Friday with flexible hours to accommodate school schedule. Overtime may be available on an occasional basis to meet business demands.
