Maryland Code COMAR 10.17.01 requires that recreational swimming facilities (Open to the Public) have certified lifeguards that maintain vigilant surveillance of the water and patrons at all times. The code further requires that the lifeguard be within 3 feet of the water and that there is a minimum of 1 Lifeguard per 50 patrons.

· Must be at least 15 years of age. · Possess current Lifeguard certification that is recognized and accepted by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. · Ability to Pass Pre-Employment practical skills test in the water. · Flexible schedule to include holidays, weekends, and evenings. · Ability to maintain vigilant surveillance of the pool to ensure safety of all pool patrons. · Ability to function as a team to perform all rescues. · Must be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check. · Ability to read, speak clearly, and legibly write the English language and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills on the job. · Demonstrate ability to exercise good judgement to define and analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and reach valid conclusions. · Participate in all In-service trainings to assure all team members can react accordingly to any emergency that may arise. · CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications (will train). · Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. · Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services. · Ensures that all safety equipment required by COMAR 10.17.01 and inspected by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, is available and in good working order. · Test and records water’s pH and Chlorine every two hours to ensure that levels are within the acceptable guidelines as outlined in COMAR 10.17.01. Record Total Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness readings weekly. · Educate and inform patrons of pool rules and regulations. · Administer swim test as needed. · Assist in proper fitting of floatation devices when required. · Complete Cleaning duties as outlined for each shift or as directed by the management team. · Monitor the weather to ensure the safety of guest and staff. Direct swimmers out of the water in the event of a weather emergency, fecal incident or chemical emergency. · Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool. · Provide assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary. · Provide Phenomenal customer service at all times.
