JOB DESCRIPTION
Lead Teacher –Preschool
Basic Requirements: A teacher at St. Thomas More School is of good moral character, is licensed by the State of Ohio, and meets all the requirements for school employment required by the Ohio Revised Code. A teacher of religion must meet the standards of certification set up by the Office of Catechetical Formation and Education of the Diocese of Cleveland or be working toward such certification.
Organizational Relationship: Each teacher reports directly to the principal as the instructional leader
of the school.
Classification: Non-Exempt
General Responsibilities:
- Consistently teach and act in accordance with the stated philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies of the school as directed by the principal, the Diocesan Office of Catechetical Formation and Education, and the minimum standards of the State of Ohio.
- Model Christian characteristics and behavior in relations with staff, students, parents, and community.
- Respect the spiritual values of the students and aid in their Christian formation.
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with administrative, instructional, clerical, and staff.
- Adhere to the Personnel Practices of the school.
- Display a strong commitment to a team approach in which ALL have a role and work to serve others rather than self.
- Maintain a strong work ethic: hard working and high standards, avoiding minimalism and mediocrity.
- Commit to communicating with the pastor and staff.
- Respect coworkers.
- Keep sensitive information confidential.
- Attend major parish events at the direction of the pastor.
- Live a good moral life as a public figure.
Specific Duties:
- Serve the school in the classroom assigned by the principal.
- Adhere to Ohio Department of Education Preschool Licensing Rules.
- Accept assigned school responsibilities.
- Avail himself/herself to staff, students, parents, and administration for at least 15 minutes before and after school.
- Assume direct responsibility for students in his/her care throughout the school day from arrival through dismissal.
- Promote good public relations with parents, students, staff, parish, and community, and be willing to make adjustments in time and schedule to meet needs.
- Prepare, write, and submit lesson plans based on the State of Ohio’s Early Learning Standards, evaluate competency in subjects required, and provide intervention as needed.
- Evaluate and report student progress in behavior and academics by the following means: progress reports, weekly samples of work, Bloomz Posts, parent-teacher conferences twice a year (and more frequently if necessary).
- Perform all clerical work required by the school and relative to his/her assignment.
- Maintain a healthy, organized, safe, and attractive physical classroom environment.
- Maintain professional rapport with students, model good discipline through self-control and respect for students and others, and use discipline techniques effectively to ensure a productive and positive learning environment.
- Create a form of essential information and other pertinent material needed by a substitute teacher.
- Attend faculty and level meetings, Open House, and other meetings called by the principal.
- Engage in staff development activities: in-service programs, instructional improvement, curriculum planning, textbook selection, etc.
- Submit evidence of continued professional growth: association memberships, meetings attended, course-work, conventions, etc.
- Keep his/her file in the Office of Catechetical Formation and Education and in the school up-to- date: contract, certification, transcripts, salary, absentee record, medical reports, evaluations, records of professional development, and other pertinent supplements.
- Observe professional ethics and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and community.
- Display good taste and professionalism by wearing appropriate apparel and good grooming.
- Notify the principal in writing and with due notice if it is necessary to resign during the school year.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Requirements: Associate’s Degree or Higher in Early Childhood Education
Professional demeanor
Physically able to lift 25 pounds
Ability to react quickly in an emergency situation
Work Schedule: As assigned. Additional hours may be required during peak activity times.
Hours may also be adjusted during the days worked before school commences and after school has closed for the school year.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
