The Laboratory Staff Assistant (LSA) The LSA performs a variety of services, including phlebotomy (specimen collection) and specimen receiving/processing on infants, children and adult patients, using appropriate techniques as established by the lab departments of Dayton Children's Medical Center. The duties of this position include all aspects of QA/QC for the center's lab and contents, which must be kept to the standards of Dayton Children's and guidelines set by it's governing bodies ( OSHA, CAP, AABB, JCAHO, ODH, etc.). Additional requirements include a working knowledge of SunQuest, LIS applicable functions and may includes patient registration in HBOC, order entry in the LIS. All certification, training documents and subsequent QA/QC monitoring must meet all requirements established by Dayton Children's Medical Center, maintaining the integrity, quality and reputation of Laboratory OutReach Services. Interact with department staff and other departments within the hospital and physician offices in the community to efficiently and courteously facilitate access to hospital services. This position will schedule patients for a variety of specialty clinics and/or testing areas. Assist established patients in rescheduling appointments and setting up follow-up appointments, if appropriate. Process cancellations for appointments and/or testing, work to fill openings, and communicate changes as needed. Required: High school diploma/GED, CPR, Phlebotomy Certificate within 1 year of hire date, successful completion of pediatric phlebotomy patient training program as provided and keyboarding 30 wpm required.
