The role you’ll contribute:
The Laboratory Assistant I performs various laboratory support procedures in assigned areas which may include phlebotomy and/or specimen processing in clinical and anatomical pathology areas. The Laboratory Assistant I must meet the required basic continuing education and department specific requirements. Work customarily involves practical knowledge in various laboratory procedures and support functions. May be asked to perform any of the following non-technical functions:.

- Continually maintains workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied; properly stores documentation and paperwork.
- Performs post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing as needed to support assigned department.
- Performs various support activities to facilitate operation of assigned department or work area, which may include answering the telephone, clerical and receptionist duties.
- Assists the Laboratory management with special projects as assigned.
- Assists in teaching new staff and Phlebotomy Students when assigned.
- Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff.
- Participates in, and has knowledge of, laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities, including evaluation of new equipment and/or procedures or methods.
- Performs waived testing, and associated, quality control, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation and result reporting, if applicable
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Education or equivalent
PREFERRED:
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program
- Six Months in AdventHealth Lab
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
Please be advised that all licenses and certifications listed are not required. If you only have one or some of those listed, you may still be eligible for this position.
REQUIRED:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification if required by facility
PREFERRED:
- PBT(ASCP) or MLA (ASCP) or equivalent
