Position Overview:
The Novelis MMP Spokane team is seeking a
Lab Technologist
. The person in this role will report to the Quality and Lab Leader. The ideal candidate will be responsible for running samples for OES Check Analysis program, completing global casting consumables material testing, running various equipment in metallurgical and wet chemistry laboratories for different casting, research, and/or plant support projects. This position will contribute to local and global initiatives around aluminum casting, metal quality, efficiency, alloy development, research, investigation, and environmental footprint.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:

- Operate Optical Emission Spectrometer machines and software
- Run Check Analysis program
- Perform metallurgical analysis by sectioning, mounting, polishing, running Scanning Electron Microscope or Optical Microscope
- Perform experiments using various types of laboratory equipment (TGA, DSC, XRD, etc.)
- Complete molten metal testing on casting consumables
- Perform metal quality work such as inclusion investigation and degassing
- Maintain laboratory space in terms of housekeeping and appearance
- Use machines such as cranes and fork trucks to lift samples and other equipment
- Assists the laboratory manager with maintenance of lab procedures and documentation
- Adhere to company safety absolutes
Minimum Q ualifications :
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or equivalent
- 0 – 3 years of experience
- Microsoft Office tools
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety and familiarity with balances, glassware, and hazardous chemicals
- Ability to initiate, perform, and complete reports in timely manner
- Ability to work independently with little direction in a fast paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in an industrial setting and/or laboratory
- High mechanical aptitude
- Experience in Analytical Chemistry practices
