Position Highlights:
The
Josephine County Circuit Court
in Grants Pass, Oregon is hiring a Judicial Assistant (Judicial Services Specialist 3).

Much of your day is spent providing moderate to complex clerical support for a judge. You will be responsible for scheduling, calendaring, establishing workload priorities, coordinating court appearances and meetings, and making travel/lodging arrangements. You will track the status of cases assigned to the judge and will provide direction, training, and assistance to coworkers, attorneys, litigants, agencies, and the public in the areas of case processing, case management, and procedures.
Providing courtroom and trial support will be part of your duties. You will function as the bailiff, court clerk, and court reporter during court proceedings. As such, you will remain alert for security purposes, assist with jurors, record trials and hearings, perform data entry, process court documents, and prepare the courtroom for daily proceedings.
Additionally, you will prepare and process a variety of forms requiring a broad knowledge of court operations and legal terminology/format. These materials include, but are not limited to, judicial correspondence, DMV suspensions, referral forms, warrants, plea petitions, appeal notices, judgments, opinions, and instructions. You are expected to review materials for accuracy and completeness and to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified applicant must have at least two (2) years of responsible, clerical experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
AND
Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or equivalent life or work experience.

Working Conditions
  • This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
  • Occasional after-hours work may be required.
  • Frequent telephone and in-person contact with angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated people and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Exposure to disturbing and/or hazardous court exhibits.
  • Schedules and courtrooms continually change, so this position must have the ability to adapt quickly to various changes.
  • The following equipment may be used: telephone, calculator, personal computer, printer, multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, scanner, and electronic recording equipment.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds of office material or equipment may be required.
  • Long periods of sitting may be required.
