The South Dakota State University School of Design invites applications for an Instructor of Studio Art to begin no later than August 2023. This is a full-time, nine-month, benefit eligible, term appointment and the position reports to the Director of the School of Design. South Dakota State University promotes access to and opportunities for all to receive the benefit of and participate in education, research, and service and is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to this land-grant mission of access.
The School of Design has five accredited majors: studio art, graphic design, landscape architecture, interior design and architecture. Collectively, School faculty form a collaborative teaching and research environment that values cross-program and interdisciplinary initiatives. The successful candidate will contribute to building national and international stature and recognition for the discipline, School and University.
SDSU offers a 4-year Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with specializations in ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and art education. The program aims to develop the knowledge base and experience for students to pursue careers as professional artists or in various art-related fields. Our commitment to providing real-world experience is realized through our professional B.F.A. curriculum, internships, practice courses and travel study to art galleries, museums and design studios in national and international design centers

POSITION
RESPONSIBILITIES
:
- Teach courses within the in the studio art professional curriculum with expertise in at least one of the specialization areas and in School common core studios.
- Provide service to the discipline, university, and community.
- Teach in multi-disciplinary courses within the School of Design.

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
:
- Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art or international equivalent by time of appointment.
- Potential to develop and teach academic coursework in beginning studio instruction and one or more of the specialization content areas.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS
:
- Experience teaching in an academic setting.
- Ability to teach ceramics or sculpture studios.
- Production of art works for commission, sales, or exhibition.
- Record of service within the discipline and/or profession.
