Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is actively seeking an Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in West Columbia, SC office to support our infrastructure projects in the Southeast.
Position Summary
The Inspector will be responsible for the monitoring daily activities of asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials meet specifications. The position will perform engineering inspection activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for construction applications. The inspector will record daily notes for the engineering staff.
Position Responsibilities
  • Ensure all materials, procedures, and safety rules comply with the latest SCDOT standards.
  • Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
  • Material sampling of concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and aggregates.
  • Recording Daily Work Reports to include quantities in Site Manager and for American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASTHO) projects.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
  • Attend meetings and interact with clients and third-party personnel.
  • Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or BS Degree in Civil Engineering or Survey preferred.
  • 2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt plant experience preferred.
  • SCDOT Asphalt Roadway, Earthwork, and Base, Concrete Levels 1 & 2, and ACI Field Concrete Technician desired.
  • Must have math calculation skills and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) experience.
  • Strong written and communication skills are required.
  • Current driver’s license with a safe 3-year driving record is required.
  • Must be a US resident or have a Green Card.
Physical Demands
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. The inspector must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature. The inspector must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures.
Expected Hours of Work
This position will be a full-time position. The inspector may be required to work some nights and weekends based on the project construction schedule. Inspectors will be eligible for preapproved overtime at time and a half.
