ABSTRACT OF THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Education Services Manager and the direct guidance of the Center Director, the Early Head Start Infant/Toddler Teacher II functions as a primary caregiver who plans, organizes, and conducts a full range of developmentally appropriate activities for up to four assigned children that are eight weeks through three years of age (including children with special needs). The Infant/Toddler Teacher II promotes each childs growth and development by creating and implementing a developmentally appropriate environment in which children can develop personal relationships, experiment, make choices, solve problems, and create age-appropriate social and self-help skills. The Infant/Toddler Teacher II works to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly physical environment; supervises all classroom activities; participates in parent education and shares responsibility for parent involvement. The Infant/Toddler Teacher II may be assigned to a variety of classrooms/centers and tasks as needed to achieve program goals and to ensure regulatory compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES (including but not limited to):

  • Knowledge of EHS Performance Standards, licensing regulations, state requirements, and SCF policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains an individualized curriculum that meets program goals.
  • Responsible for developing individual plans for each child and scheduling home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Maintains a healthy and safe learning environment that is developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive.
  • Participates in transition activities and collaborates with program staff.
  • Implements a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive program that supports the child's development.
  • Maintains accurate records and completes required reports.
  • Builds positive relationships with families and promotes parent involvement in the classroom.
  • Plans and facilitates monthly parent meetings and other social activities.
  • Professionally promotes EHS in the community and builds strong working relationships with collaborators.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lifting, bending, and kneeling to care for infants/toddlers
  • Interacting with children by walking, standing, sitting, reaching, stooping, and crouching
  • Manipulating equipment with hands and fingers
  • Reading and communicating verbally in person or remotely
  • Tolerating bodily fluids, diseases, and moderate to loud noise levels; some travel may be required
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Education & Work Experience
    • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
    • At a minimum, must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with a focus on infants and toddlers.
    • 6 months of experience with infants/toddlers
  • Preferred
    • Associate Degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred
    • 2 or more years of experience with infants/toddlers in a center-based setting is a plus
    • Bilingual (English-Spanish) speaking and writing skills are helpful.

  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
  • Proficient in English to understand and be understood
  • Able to maintain and analyze written documents and records
  • Understands and communicates effectively with infants/toddlers, parents, and staff
  • Other requirements include acquiring CPR/First Aid training, Live Scan Fingerprinting, negative TB results, physical, and passing drug/alcohol testing.
