ABOUT THE POSITION: HR GENERALIST

The Human Resources Generalist ("HR Generalist") will be an integral member of the national People Team, performing a variety of tasks both administrative and tactical. The talented and experienced Human Resources professional chosen for this position should have a passion for service and organization. The HR Generalist at Grand Living will be responsible for people-related tasks and activities under the direction of the Chief People Officer, including employee relations, conducting investigations, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, performance management, learning and development, leveraging people analytics, supporting recruitment and payroll, gathering and synthesizing feedback and more.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides guidance for performance feedback, team member growth and development, and performance management to enhance individual and team performance
- Ensures process discipline with regard to proper documentation and recordkeeping of all employee-related matters
- Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations in organization and maintenance of employee files and HCM records
- Provides policy guidance and interpretation to community leaders and managers; may also be responsible for drafting policies
- Administers the offboarding process, including conducting exit interviews for departing staff and reporting back trends and possible issues
- Supports and champions employee engagement programming
- Engages in employee relations issues within community teams and escalates them as necessary
- Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations on employee concerns, while appropriately maintaining confidentiality
- Works closely with mid-level community managers and their team members to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention
- Drafts and deploys employee engagement surveys and conducts focus groups as needed
- Administers leave of absence policies, including FMLA, STD, LTD, USERRA, etc.
- Assists in developing relevant employee communication
- Creates and updates forms used to capture and organize data
- Produces and analyzes data sets related to the company's workforce to summarize key information or as necessary for projects
- Drives company-wide engagement activities that positively impact team member satisfaction scores and company results
- Files, prepares and participates in unemployment hearings
- Develops training presentations and materials
- Supports the Payroll & Benefits function as needed with new hire and status change entry, system clean up, record maintenance, purging activities, and compiles reports from database
- Supports the Talent Acquisition function as needed with candidate selection, interviewing, preparing offers, extending them, and checking references
- Manages completion of background check, drug screening, MVR search, and any other applicable pre-employment screenings
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree and three to five years of HR experience, or a Master's degree in HR Management plus two years of HR experience
- Experience in an HR function with responsibility for multiple sites where most meetings and interactions will occur virtually
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification or Society of Human Resources Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) designation preferred
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong ability to lead via influence rather than direct power
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and Stream
- Familiarity and experience with the best tools for data collection and process automation
- Must reside in one of Grand Living's states of operation (SD, IA, TX, FL) within a 30 minute commute to one of Grand Living's Communities.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
REPORTING STRUCTURE
While the HR Generalist will be a partner to colleagues throughout the company, the position will report directly and only to the Chief People Officer.

- Outside of situations requiring travel, must be comfortable using virtual meetings (video format) as the basis for most interactions on the job without compromising quality
