Job description
The Part-Time Health Educator is part of a dynamic team of professionals committed to providing students with substance abuse and sex education so that they are prepared to make informed decisions that positively impact their health. Educators are responsible for teaching engaging and interactive classes, effective communication with all staff, teachers and other customers, and working in a fast-paced team environment.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Education Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver substance abuse and sex education programs (in-person/virtually) to students in grades 4-8 and adults.
- Utilize best practices while teaching student and adult audiences.
- Ensure program delivery is educational, engaging, and scientifically accurate.
- Maintain expertise in health content, educational best practice, learning standards and adolescent development.
- Ability to work flexible hours between 7:30 A.M.- 4:00 P.M. Minimum availability of three days per week.
- Hours may range from an average of 10-30 hours per week, depending on business demands, from mid-August through early June.
- Occasional non-traditional work hours may be required.
- Extensive travel throughout the Chicagoland area is required. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
- Submit weekly student attendance, educator and business development notes.
- Distribute marketing material to designated school contact(s).
- Participate in monthly staff development trainings and team meetings.
- Conduct peer observations to assist in training, ensure program fidelity and shared learning opportunities.
- Check and respond to emails regularly and keep work calendar updated.
- Promote a positive and professional image when teaching and representing Candor Health Education.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Education, Public Health or related field.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable access to a vehicle.
- Routinely transport program supplies weighing up to 25 pounds to and within schools.
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience teaching health or related subjects (biology, substance abuse or sex education, human anatomy, social emotional learning and youth development).
- At least two years of experience classroom teaching or working with young people.
- Professional experience teaching diverse learners highly regarded.
- Solutions-oriented ability, initiative, and flexibility to accommodate unanticipated needs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (OneDrive, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Virtual Platforms (Zoom and Google Meet).
