The position provides technical leadership and has overall responsibility for the Business Solutions architecture function for Global Specialty IT.

This role will have oversight to the development portfolio and is responsible for designing and implementing technical architectures across all of GSI. Will be required to work with existing Senior Information leaders in each of the GSI entities to collaboratively design solutions that are resilient and consistent with the patterns and platforms of Enterprise Architecture.

The Head of Business Solutions Architecture is responsible for building and maintaining a solutions architecture team to support the development portfolio. This role is expected to recruit and retain top talent in the solutions architecture field to support the entire specialty insurance development portfolio.

Additionally, this role is responsible for supporting application solutions through the warranty period as solutions move into production.

Management Responsibilities include:

• Provides leadership by managing and allocating solutions architecture resources for the Munich Re Business Solutions team in GSI. Provides continuous improvement on software cloud designs and communicates in a timely to the teams. Applies performance management practices, including continuous conversations, and communicates performance to individuals to address issues. Actively identifies training opportunities to grow cloud and data skills across the solutions architecture team.
• Provides leadership in developing and setting dev/ops strategies for the development areas within Business Solutions.
• Provide experience and coaching on Agile approaches and tools.
• Works across the GSI competency groups of cloud, data and program management to deliver quality solutions to the business in a timely manner.
• Works closely with global IT towers of Enterprise Architecture and Infrastructure to ensure global tooling and processes are utilized.
• Manages the sourcing activities for the designated area of software development including the review and development of RFP, RFQ and RFI packages.
• Directly negotiate terms and conditions and pricing for final purchase agreements and contracts. Analyzes market trends and benchmarks for best practices and assists in driving cost management working with designated area to facilitate compliance with procurement rules and procedures.
• Assists in assuring that Munich Re is in compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations.
• Provides productivity and status reporting to management. Ensures all activities comply with corporate standards and controls.

Head of Solutions Architecture responsibilities include:

• Provide technical leadership and oversight into all major development projects across GSI. Ensure that the designs of application solutions are secure and will fit within the patterns set by Enterprise Architecture.
• Steer initiatives in order to standardize applications where possible across all of GSI to ensure a consistent approach to application procurement and deployment.
• Work to change the IT culture of thinking of individual companies to a single organization for global specialty.
• Have good working knowledge and experience with implementing cloud native solutions in either AWS or MS Azure.
• Collaborate across towers to enable effective software delivery for all development needs.
• Partner with product and platform leads across all US entities to ensure there is buy-in and support for software designs and solutions.
• Work closely with IT Security and Risk to ensure solutions implemented across the US are in security compliance.
• Build relationships across the business leaders in GSI to promote the solutions architecture competency.

IT Delivery Management responsibilities include:

• Build and maintain relationships with other regional development teams across the global towers. Expected to collaborate with Life and Health, Reinsurance and Business Technologies towers as needed.
• Attend / present at IT conferences to help bolster the Munich Re IT brand in the global specialty market.
• Management of local development resources in alignment with business unit priorities.
• Coordination of software development projects with IT involvement in all GSI entities.
• Coordination of global\\regional projects that have a GSI mpact.
• Manage and develop people in accordance with their career path framework.
• Participate / present to the Architecture Review Board (ARB).

Your profile

• Bachelor's degree
• Seven plus years of experience in software development management position
• Proven project management / Agile skills
• ITIL Foundation Certification or experience with ITIL processes
• Supervisory and leadership skills
• Functional knowledge of computer technologies
• Customer focused with demonstrated customer service skills (relationship / team builder)
• Interpersonal, leadership and negotiation skills
• Analytical (proven problem solver) skills and attention to detail
• Written and verbal communications skills to all levels of management
