Ground Based Radar Technical Expert
Job description
The Ground Based Radar Expert serves as a Technical Content Manager for Technical Orders (TO's) and is required to keep abreast of latest state-of-the-art equipment and procedures through review of engineering drawings and data, repair manuals, technical bulletins, manufacturer’s catalogs, and supply catalog data to maintain expert technical knowledge.

- Evaluate operational capability, reviews performance data and recommend corrections to equipment design deficiencies.
- Authorized access to classified information; active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
- Participate in testing of new and modified equipment as well as train users and maintainers on approved procedures.
- Present oral and written reports, briefings, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Investigate, analyze and recommend technical advice for system/equipment accidents, incidents, and failures.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairing difficult and unusual problems including those which have not been previously resolved.
- Provide technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration or enhancement of aircraft, programs and systems.
- Test, train and field support to customers regarding technical aspects of designated systems and services.
- Provide expertise for the resolution of technical problems.
- Senior level knowledge of designated systems. Answers questions about installation, operation, configuration, customization and usage of designated systems and services.
- Apply senior diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes and recommend solutions to correct common failures.
- Direct the work effort of internal staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Ability:
- Extensive mechanical and operational experience with radar systems.
- Experience as Subject Matter Expert for radar.
- Possession of excellent technical writing, briefing, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to evaluate operational capability and performance data.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex radar mechanical issues.
- Must be knowledgeable of relational database management techniques.
- Requires a self-starter with strong leadership skills.
- Demonstrated skill in negotiation, building consensus and achieving compromise.
- Demonstrated Technical Leadership Skills.
- Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Dependable attendance.
- U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person status.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time, review information on a computer screen and be able to withstand repetitive motion (up to 10 hours a day with lunch and breaks). The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment and ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week if necessary.
Office Location and Travel
This position is located at Peterson AFB.
Travel will not be required.
Working Environment & Conditions
This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate.
