Graduate Engineer A
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- None.
Graduate Engineer B
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Texas: Engineer – In Training Certification.
Engineer A
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Engineer B
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in engineering acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Engineer C
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Notes to Applicants
This primary purpose of this position is to scope and review transportation impact analyses (TIAs) for ATD within the Transportation Development Services Division. This position conducts highly technical engineering functions to assess impacts from proposed development and recommends multi-modal improvements to mitigate anticipated impacts to the transportation network. The duties require interface and negotiation with applicants’ project teams to approve TIAs as well as provide engineering oversight on most projects in a specific geographic area. Many of the projects under this position’s review are high profile and of interest to the public, stakeholders, and elected officials. This position also creates and reviews policies, plans, and other documents to implement council-approved codes and ordinances that will impact transportation development within the City of Austin. In addition, this position will take a lead role in the implementation of the Street Impact Fee (SIF) as new development applications are submitted to the City.
Salary Range:
Graduate Engineer A: $31.65 – S39.56
Graduate Engineer B: $32.89 – $41.93
Engineer A: $34.86 – $44.45
Engineer B:$36.95 – $47.12

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in scoping, preparing, and/or reviewing TIAs.
- Experience using the ITE Trip Generation Manual.
- Experience with the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan, Transportation Criteria Manual, and TxMUTCD.
- Experience using Synchro modeling software.
- Experience coordinating multiple activities and projects.
- Proficiency in team working and problem-solving skills with internal and external members to accomplish organizational goals.
- Ability to provide technical input and strategic direction to multiple work teams by coordinating across ATD divisions, City departments, stakeholders, and partner agencies.
- Experience/comfortability speaking in front of boards/commissions.
