At Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Network, Infrastructure, and Engineering-Telecommunication Services group (NIE-TS) is seeking YOU! A GIS Specialist experienced in telecommunications and data entry to work with our Graphical Information System (GIS) team. Your work will support the ArcGIS database by researching telecommunications data, entering the data in the ArcGIS SQL database, ensuring the integrity of the data, and maintaining the database for the ArcGIS team.
Job Duties:

- Implements relational and non-relational database, middleware, and/or application management solutions.

- Identifies and communicates productivity impediments and promotes work process improvements.
- Under supervision, reviews telecommunications drawings and records, performs daily data entry for the ArcGIS database.
- Attends and participates in meetings, workshops and presentations as required.
- Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
- Displays outstanding communication and collaboration skills.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements for GIS Specialist 1 ($56,300 - $87,200)
- Knowledge of relational or non-relational database management, middleware/application administration and/or application delivery.
- Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work closely with customers and other IT service providers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.
- Managing time effectively while working on multiple projects under deadline.
Additional Job Requirements for GIS Specialist 2 ($67,800 - $107,700):
In addition to the job requirements outlined above, qualification at the GIS-2 level requires:
- Working knowledge of relational or non-relational database management, middleware/application administration and/or application delivery.
- Experience working closely with customers and other IT service providers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.
Education/Experience for GIS Specialist 1:
Position requires a minimum of 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience for GIS Specialist 2:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience reviewing architectural / construction drawings, particularly utility drawings.
- Knowledge of telecommunications outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) telecommunications cabling infrastructure.
- Experience with ArcGIS software.
Work Location: The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
