The General Manager for Woodward West is an innovative, dynamic, and forward-thinking leader. The G M is responsible for all aspects of large-scale youth camp operations. This is a senior level position which requires leadership expertise in the action sports industry. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of action sports as it relates to progression and program development in skateboarding, BMX, mountain biking, parkour, acrobatics and aerial awareness. This role will contribute to strategic planning, implementation, execution and Key Performance Indicator management.
Compensation: Proposed hiring rate of $90,000 to $95,000+ actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Management
  • Leads the development of business unit Woodward Strategic Plan (WSP)
  • Leads the development of business unit annual budget informed by the WSP
  • Leads the development of business unit capital plan informed by the WSP
Financial Responsibilities
  • Leads and operationalizes strategies to maximize revenue generation, flow through and yield
  • Leads the business unit in management of operational expense and labor
  • Reports financial results in alignment with POWDR schedule and provides ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Responsible for asset management and maintenance
Sport Leadership and Programming
  • Leads and inspires the Programming teams to create exceptional sport experiences for guests and staff
  • Oversees the continual evaluation, development, safety, and enhancement of all sport facilities and disciplines
  • Has deep knowledge of the sport experiences offered to guests, identifying areas of improvement, assessing staffing, identifying opportunities and making adjustments to continue to position Woodward as a sport leader
  • Creates products and programming that are relevant for all levels of athletes
  • Understands and creates industry trends, while maintaining the integrity of our progression-based focus
Leadership & Team
  • Leads a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion
  • Creates alignment within the Leadership Team as to values and priorities
  • Actively leads ongoing change management
  • Creates a learning mindset among leaders and seeks to develop talent
  • Drives a community-centric culture that focuses on being a leader in the staff and guest experience
  • Oversees the overall health, wellness, and safety plan for Woodward Camps
Requirements:
Operations
  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring success of annual operating plan in alignment with WSP
  • Responsible for camp daily operations
  • Oversees the effective management of employee housing and guest lodging
  • Drives team to advance and optimize all processes and systems
  • Oversees capital and operating project management
Regulatory Responsibilities & Relationships
  • Responsible for compliance to federal, state, local and ACA regulatory agencies
  • Monitors and reviews all legal matters including general liability, Workers' Compensation, property rights, etc.
Community Relations & Impact
  • Leads the team to remove barriers to action sports and attract and retain more diversity in guests and staff
  • Inspires engagement in the Play Forever commitments to our environment and our community
  • Builds relationships with brand partners and other strategic and community partners
  • Builds relationships with athletes and sport associations
  • Contributes to industry associations
  • Collaborates and partners with public agencies as appropriate

  • Is detail oriented and able to quickly decipher data to make decisions that drive results
  • Can influence diverse team members to meet a high level of expectation and creates buy in and commitment
  • Is energized by a fast-paced and potentially high-pressure work environment
  • Able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Is comfortable challenging established policies and procedures, but once established, is supportive of those rules
  • Is flexible with hours and days and availability
Preferred Experience / Special Skills:
  • 10+ years of senior leadership in the action sports and outdoor recreation industry
  • Experience managing a business unit and scaling operations and revenue centers
  • College degree in business related field, or equivalent experience
