This position reports to the Maintenance Services-Capital Manager.


The Maintenance Services Engineer manages, plans, organizes, and directs engineering projects to meet company objectives for design, new product development and improvement of existing infrastructure. The Maintenance Services Engineer will work closely with multiple levels of management such as Corporate Capital group, Operations, Maintenance and Technical Services teams to scope out prospective projects, agree on timings and service level agreements with clients, negotiate with third party contractors and manage the creation and delivery of detailed project plans. Ultimately, bringing in a profitable, successful project on time and to the satisfaction of the end user.


What you will do:


This position is responsible to complete assigned engineering projects and tasks relating to the mining and processing of phosphate ore, production of sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, manufacturer of ammonia phosphate fertilizers and other phosphate products.

Key activities include:

  • Preparation of engineering scope of work and cost estimates in response to engineering requests submitted by other departments
  • Project management responsibility associated with capital projects, including specifications, prepare requisitions, oversight on engineering firms, and bid analysis on project work activities
  • Prepares status reports and regularly monitors budgets, contractors, and schedules. Allocates project resources appropriately; approves expenditures
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions
  • Act as resident project engineer, direct contract engineering services, ensure project cost control and input in to Oracle EPM data base
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintains project integrity and reputation through compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Moderate physical effort—ability to climb ladders and stairs in an industrial environment is required


What you will bring:


  • The position requires a thorough grounding in engineering principles and a minimum of 0-3 years of experience in chemical industry as project engineer or process engineer
  • Minimum educational requirement is a B.S. Degree in Engineering
  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university is preferred
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina is preferred
  • A general knowledge of phosphate rock mining, ore processing, and chemical processing at the Aurora Mining and Manufacturing Complex is desired
  • Proven ability with following skills: Design Skills, Project Management, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Process Improvement, Technical Understanding, Documentation Skills, Safety Management, Supervision, CAD//CAM Circuit Design, Oracle systems, P6 professional R15.2
  • Seminars, meetings, and continuing education in the field of expertise are required to maintain an up-to-date working knowledge
