A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST

As an Employment Specialist, you support people with developmental disabilities to live their best lives as independently as possible through meaningful employment. As new participants join our program, you complete an assessment of their individual desires, capabilities, and goals. You then work one-on-one with each client to help get them job-ready. Your ultimate goal is to help these individuals to obtain and retain employment with businesses in the community.

You work directly with employers to place our program participants in a position that best matches their abilities. With attention to detail, you develop community worksites and prepare meetings as well as training. Working closely with participants, families, case managers, and service providers, you advocate on behalf of the individuals you are serving. You find it very rewarding to help individuals with developmental disabilities lead self-fulfilling lives and find satisfying employment!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST

  • Strong computer skills

  • Knowledge about various software packages including Windows applications 2007 and above
  • Valid driver's license and reliable non-public transportation
  • Passion for serving individuals with disabilities and providing employment options for them

A bachelor's degree OR an associate degree with 3+ years of experience in human services is preferred but not required. One year or more of experience in sales and working with individuals with disabilities would be a plus. Are you compassionate and able to easily build relationships? Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? Can you manage your time well and prioritize multiple tasks effectively?
