Job description
The Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting production facilities. Providing the consistency of direction, expertise, and resources development to improve equipment reliability while at the same time reducing the cost associated with over reliance on OEM and 3rd party technicians. This role will be responsible for planning, training, and supporting efforts in conjunction with the plant teams in technical areas where the plants need shoring up. You will also be the facilitator and keeper of diagnostic equipment, back up programs, interface software and hardware etc. to effectively deal with conditions experienced with key equipment.

- Trainer, keeper, and execution support for key equipment analysis instrumentation (such as Profibus Analyzer, Thermal Scanner, etc.).
- Identification of data analysis opportunities within plants, direction to setup to capture that data, as well as the use of that data to solve problems or improve on systemic buried losses.
- Application support for equipment driven Ignition tools.
- Secondary repository for all download machine software, the cables/software keys/passwords etc. needed to download operating software, maintain a copy and a system to ensure all base line settings for each software-controlled machine are readily available. In essence the "failure recovery kit".
- Support automation introduction at plants including integration, training, troubleshooting etc. to provide a wider network of resources that can deal with advancing automation.
- Understand and develop technical knowledge of the mechanical aspect of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Evaluate repeat failure occurrences to develop proactive preventive measures
- Lead and conduct autopsy post significant event
- Facilitate, coach and train the development of consistent plant specific equipment troubleshooting and system/process procedures (Play Books & SOP's).
- Establish that Plants local Electro-Mechanical vender resources provide capability and value in alignment with Smithfield M&E objectives/standards. Foster added value opportunities in this area including individual componentry training & insight, technical and service expertise, technical training capabilities, availability, etc.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts that have exceeded the plants abilities.
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Established experience controlling, implementing and commissioning industrial systems.
- Understand control system concepts as well as how they relate with critical IT infrastructure.
- Visualization Software: Ignition, FactoryTalk View SE / ME
- Rockwell Software: Studio 5000, Logix 5000, Logix 500, Connected Component
- Siemens Software: TIA, Step 7
- Network Protocols: Ethernet IP, ProfiBus / ProfiNet, ModBus
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Proficient SAP user preferred.
- Data management: SQL preferred
- Understand control system concepts as well as how they relate with critical IT infrastructure.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work through complex, unstructured problems.
- Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and verbal formats.
- Ability to use engineering knowledge and skills to identify, develop and implement process improvements and communicate results.
- Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills required.
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
- Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
