Summary of the Position
The FV Advocate provides services to victims of domestic violence. The advocate serves as a support for women and families who seek assistance from the FV Center. This position will provide assistance and services as prescribed by the women/family shelter mission statement and handbook.
Responsibilities
- Maintain personnel and client confidentiality.
- Providing a protective and caring environment for women and children at the shelter.
- Networking with making referrals to appropriate agencies.
- Advocacy for women includes the following areas:
- Civil and criminal justice proceedings
- Safety and medical issues
- Income maintenance and job services
- Housing and other social services
- Admitting and interviewing clients, which includes completing the initial intake form.
- Answering telephones and handling the crisis line in a supportive manner.
- Dealing with crisis situations.
- Assisting residents in identifying their options and listening in a non-judgmental (no advice-giving) manner.
- Maintaining resident files, record keeping, and assisting with statistical information for monthly reports.
- Attending all mandatory staff meetings and various coalition meetings as directed by the director.
- Transporting residents and their children as directed.
- Communication and record-keeping skills.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Physical Demand
- Ability to safely lift up to 25 lbs.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must pass central registry, criminal background checks, and pre-employment drug testing.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous work experience working with Domestic Violence victims preferred
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Wages
Dependent upon verifiable experience.

- Advocate: 1 year (Preferred)
- Social work: 1 year (Preferred)
Language:
- Bilingual (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Required)
- Certified Social Worker (Preferred)
Willingness to travel:
- 25% (Preferred)
