General Summary
Loads cement in bulk into cement trucks and rail cars. Inspects equipment for wear and potential breakdowns. Prepares equipment and supplies, and takes cement samples. Manipulates levers and switches, along with operating various electrical controls and computers in order to control various mechanical equipment in order to withdrawal, weighing, conveying and discharging of materials from storage into bins and ultimately into transport trucks and rail cars.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
- Loads cement into trucks daily. Load cement into rail cars as needed.
- Receives orders from customers, dispatches loads to common carriers, and puts loads onto computer.
- Stands in for dispatcher and carries out all responsibilities of that role in their absence.
- Performs inspections for efficient flow of silos, compressors and pumps, scales, dust collectors/hummer screen.
- Performs daily clean-up of work area.
- Performs minor repairs on equipment.
- Maintains records on samples, daily loads, cement price lists, bulk load out operating log, daily log, dispatcher sheets and time on silo filling report.
- Writes orders on log sheets, prepares daily safety and equipment log and types bills of lading.

- Completion of high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) is preferred.
- 1 year of on-the-job (in plant) experience in the capacity of Shipping Operator I is generally required to ensure complete understanding of control panel, safe truck loading procedures and scale operations.
- Knowledge of hand tools required.
- Must possess mechanical aptitude and previous experience operating heavy equipment.
- Must possess ability to communicate and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to understand and follow supervisor s instructions, safety rules and regulations, equipment operating instructions and danger notices.
- Must be able to exercise common sense in the operation and safety of all equipment, machinery and vehicles; to work under pressure to solve problems, meet deadlines in performing work in a timely fashion
- Must be able to make decisions regarding maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery; to recognize unusual situations deviating from prescribed routine and take appropriate action
- Must be able to work as part of a team, as well as to complete assigned tasks independently with little direct supervision; to work in a physically challenging and sometimes stressful environment; to take direction from supervisor and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule that changes each week to cover 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
