Our Power Services group has a need for a Distribution Designer to join their team. In this role, performed on-site in our Houston office, you will perform project-related work in the utilities industry, designing and planning power distribution facilities.
What you will do:
- Design overhead and underground electric projects using engineering software
- Gather information from sources such as GIS, Google, plans, drawings, and others
- Investigate project needs and provide solutions to complete the assigned project
- Determine fuse size and coordination with assistance from engineers or staff professionals
- Learn and apply design and construction standards
- Learn and apply right-of-way requirements for project design
- Field check assigned projects and document conditions related to the project
- Issue survey and staking requests to crews and, when needed, stake minor projects on your own
- Create work orders and review materials list for projects
- Perform analysis of design to determine structural integrity
Job Requirements:
Who you are:
You are a team player with a professional demeanor focused on performing a variety of support functions. As a self-starter, you have excellent time and task management skills. You are an accomplished communicator, both verbal and written.
What you bring:
- Have (or working towards) a 2-year construction/engineering-related degree or certificate preferred but not required.
- 2 years of work history experience preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in using various computer software packages.
- Proficient in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn National Electric Safety Codes
- Basic understanding of electricity
- Basic understanding of construction methodologies
- Basic use and understanding of construction tools (tape measure, hammer, etc.)
- Ability to read, interpret, summarize, and discuss blueprints, technical drawings, and maps
- Valid driver’s license and transportation available
