The Director of the STEM Gateway Learning Center will provide a vision for meeting the goals of the center. Oversee and manage the STEM Gateway Learning Center. Provide strategic leadership, management, and guidance for the development of inclusive mentoring, and tutoring for gateway STEM courses in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. Manage staff, including hiring associate director and mentors. Maintain positive relationships and interactions with STEM instructors of STEM gateway courses as well as other stakeholders in other colleges. In collaboration with leaders of the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning, develop, maintain, and implement training materials on inclusive instruction and mentors for the peer mentors and tutors of the center. Work with the registrar’s office to include this training in a required course for the mentors. Provide quarterly reports of information on the progress of the center, accomplishments, and future goals, and share those reports with the leadership of the College of Arts and Sciences and instructors of the STEM gateway courses. Track performance measures and evaluate and assess efficacy of mentoring and inclusion initiatives in collaboration with the Educational Assessment Leadership of the Driving Change program. Meet with the Dean of Natural and Mathematical Sciences regularly with updates on the progress of the center. Represent the STEM Gateway Learning Center across the Ohio State campus in various campus events and committees. Remain current on higher education mentoring literature and best practices. Present results at relevant national conferences. Position the STEM Gateway Learning Center as a national leader in inclusive mentoring and tutoring. Work with the Arts and Sciences Marketing and Communication Leadership to develop communication strategies about the goals of the center and its successes. Work with that team to develop a center website and maintain the website. Participate in other university-wide meetings affiliated with student success.

Required: Ph.D. in STEM or STEM Education. Faculty position at the Tenure, Clinical or Associated rank. Background of successfully mentoring of diverse STEM students. Experience in teaching STEM courses. Excellent written and communication skills. Background of successful mentoring of diverse STEM students. Knowledge of systemic biases and significant challenges experienced by students historically excluded from STEM fields. Demonstrated experience addressing the educational and academic needs of a diverse student population. Significant and documented leadership and management skills. Experience in productively interacting with diverse stakeholders. Experience in fostering inclusivity. Experience in fostering an innovative learning environment. Experience to function independently and as a member of a collaborative team. Experience in facilitating community, foster STEM identity and mentoring diverse STEM students.

Desired: STEM degree in and experience in teaching courses in biology, chemistry, physics, or math. Experience with STEM education program assessment or current knowledge of STEM program assessment. Experience in interacting with external STEM corporate or industrial partners. Experience in program management. Experience in STEM education professional development. Experience in interacting with external STEM corporate or industrial partners.
