QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of 5 years of housekeeping experience in a health care setting.

2. Proper mental attitude for working with the geriatric resident.

3. Ability to read and write.

4. Ability to communicate instructions and supervise others.

5. Ability to work in cooperation with all other departments.

6. Ability to follow directions.

7. Fulfill responsibilities while being respectful and courteous to residents, visitors and other staff members.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be able to stand for extended period of time walking around the facility.

2. Must be able to sit for periods of time doing paperwork.

3. Must be able to work extended hours as needed for the facility.

4. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, climb, lift and carry heavy objects.


MANAGEMENT /SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Endorses and interprets the philosophy, objectives, and procedures of the Nursing Service Department and the policies and Code of Ethics of the Vestal Nursing Center.

2. Acts as a role model for the staff of the Vestal Nursing Center and assures that all residents are treated in a kind and courteous manner, their rights protected, their behavior understood and accepted and independence allowed within the limits of their disabilities.

3. Assists in developing and maintaining the goals and objectives of the Housekeeping Department.

4. Identifies and communicates ideas for operational changes that will lead to cost savings, time saving and/or improvement in patient care.

5. Observes staff for appearance, name pins, conduct, quality of work, and relationship with residents and co-workers.

6. Participates in the formulation of personnel requirements and administration of absence control policies. Recommends or assigns staff to accommodate lateness and absence, overtime, permits early leaves from shift and makes assignment changes.

7. Evaluates on a day-to-day basis employee work performance and issues Work Performance Reports.

8. Evaluates employees during and upon completion of probationary period and recommends retention or termination.

9. Assists in performing interim or annual evaluations recommending eligibility for wage increased, assignments of disciplinary action.

10. Controls and is responsible for all activities within their assigned work areas.

11. Maintains discipline and compliance with all facility policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines within their assigned work areas.

12. Maintains safety, order and is authorized to issue disciplinary warnings.

13. Participates in the Grievance Procedure relating to employee grievances.

14. Ensures proper utilization of staff supplies and equipment in conformance with quality care and budgetary issues.

15. Attend weekly Department Head meetings.

16. Attend quarterly Quality Assurance meetings.

17. Assures that staff attend required mandatory inservices; coordinate job specific inservice.


HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Interview, hire and maintain proper staff for Housekeeping Department.

2. Coordinate staffing schedule and assignments.

3. Oversee orientation of new staff.

4. Coordinate housekeeping needs with other departments.

5. Assist Housekeeping Aides when necessary.

6. Coordinate and complete packing, moving and storing of resident's personal possessions upon discharge or room change.

7. Change drapes and cubicle curtains as scheduled.

8. Maintain current MSDS records in a central location for staff use.

9. Maintains department's performance within Quality Assurance standards.

10. Hold and document periodic staff meetings.

11. Seek new and better procedures and products.

12. Record year-end inventories for Housekeeping supplies.

13. Complete budget preparation for Housekeeping Department.

14. Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.

15. Accepts responsibilities as a participant in the Eden Alternative.
