EMS Director

DEPARTMENT: EMS REPORTS TO: VP of Operations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes/No REVISED: 11/2022

Job Summary: Directors and controls EMS operation of an Advanced Life Support Service for the City of McPherson and surrounding area.

Essential Functions/Accountabilities:

• Plans, directs, inspects, and gives administrative support to EMS Department with goal of improving patient care
• Commands and directs EMS operations at major incidents by using established Incident Command functions as required by law.
• Develops short term goals for the department to ensure necessary equipment and staff to respond to EMS calls.
• Represents McPherson EMS with different community groups such as McPherson County LEPC, MAC Group, USD 418, Safety Committee, to improve and explain EMS operations.
• Represents McPherson EMS at Regional EMS meetings such as Kansas EMS Region III, South Central Kansas Healthcare Coalition, HCC Advisory Board, and South Central trauma Region.

Duties:

• Manage Day-to Day operation of the EMS Department.
• Assist EMS crews when needed to assure continuity of operations within the EMS Department
• Provide support and guidance to Ems shift Supervisors as well as line staff to ensure consistent operation and accountability.
• Serve on various committees within the Hospital that pertain to consistent patient care and medical operations.
• Maintain interdepartmental cooperation between EMS, Hospital, and Community partners.

Qualifications:

• Education – Bachelors degree Preferred, Associates degree required
• Experience – 3 to 5 Years required, 5-7 years preferred
• Licensure/Certification – Kansas Certified Paramedic

DISCRETION/LATITUDE/DECISION-MAKING

• Exercise independent judgment. Work affords significant opportunity to act independently on assigned tasks.
• Duties are performed under minimal supervision.

RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT –FINANCIAL & SUPERVISORY

• Financial responsibility will include working within a budget, and developing annual department budget for both Hospital And City of McPherson.
• Direct supervision of EMS Captains, Lieutenants, and Line Staff

COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

• Work and communicate with a wide range of people – peers, vendors, the public, staff members including program leadership, and others.
• Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion. Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
• Formulate and clearly communicate ideas to others.
• Fluency in English.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT

• Work requires ability to lift > 50 pounds on a regular basis. Work may require moderate to extreme physical exertion and/or physical strain.
• Willingness to work flexible hours.
• Ability to work under stress during peak workload periods.
• OSHA Category 1 – Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues or other potentially infectious materials.
