Job Description

The Assistant Director for Residential Well-being is responsible for developing and implementing a vision for well-being in the residence halls as part of the Residential Well-being model. Reporting to the Associate Director for Community Well-being in Hokie Wellness, the Assistant Director will lead a team of five Residential Well-being Coordinators to address the unique needs of each district within Residential Well-being.

This position will be responsible for leading and overseeing the well-being related efforts in each of the residential halls. This role will work to develop a well-being curriculum to be delivered by the well-being coordinators and student leaders. In collaboration with the Well-being Coordinators, the Assistant Director will develop training for the student leaders on areas of well-being, student development, and key institutional initiatives (digital well-being, financial wellness, sexual violence prevention, etc.). They will also be responsible for collecting and analyzing data to determine how to best to support each district as well as propose community and policy levels changes that may help improve student success and well-being for all on-campus students.

This position will support Hokie Wellness programs by facilitating BASICS consultations, sexual violence prevention presentations, and outreach and events on these topics. Additionally, they will work to promote services, education, and events for health and wellness departments including Hokie Wellness, Recreational Sports, Cook Counseling, and Schiffert Health Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public health, health education, health promotion or a related field.
  • Passion for student development and commitment to student success, well-being, and inclusion.
  • Experience in and a commitment to diversity and inclusion and an understanding of the developmental needs of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Collaborative, innovative, and adaptable with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities, take initiative in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Ability to develop strong faculty and professional partnerships and engagement.
  • Experience convening and engaging teams of professionals and/or students to support a shared vision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and implementing well-being programs in a higher education setting.
  • Experience leading and educating peer educators
  • Experience evaluating and assessing the effectiveness or programming.

About Residential Well-being

At Virginia Tech, Residential Well-being refers to a collaborative vision & effort by partners across the Division of Student Affairs, such as Hokie Wellness, the Dean of Students office, Experience VT, and the Chief Inclusion & Belonging Officer. The Residential Well-being office operates as a matrix organization, where coordinators have the opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team that serves a district of approximately 2000 students, as well as belonging to a team of fellow coordinators from other districts who work with an expert leader from the coordinating department.
