The Assistant Director for Residential Education, New York City Campus, serves as the architect for developing a residential educational curriculum, programs and services that meet the needs of students living in residence. The ADRE, reporting to the Director for Residential Life, will work with the director, assistant directors, and the Residence Director staff to develop a residential community of excellence, providing a highly supportive environment in which students are challenged to achieve autonomy and independence, while understanding their own accountability within a community of learners
Position Duties
- Provide a high standard of service to resident students.
- In collaboration with the Director for Residential Life, set educational priorities, learning outcomes, goals, and department strategies to meet University Strategic Initiatives through implementation of a residential education curriculum.
- Identify learning outcomes appropriate for and consistent with developmental levels of residential students.
- Create engagement plans (lesson plans) to be utilized by building staff in residential communities.
- Develop assessment strategies for measuring impact of engagement plans.
- Participate in annual review, evaluation and adjustment of engagement strategies.
- Coordinate with PLV staff to ensure consistency across campuses.
- Maintain departmental website. Maintain social media plan and presence, including submitting content for Alumni/Development. Community Standards:
- Serve as hearing officer for high-level cases, and as appeals officer for mid-level cases.
- Performs other such duties as assigned from time to time.
This is a live-on position with significant crisis management/duty rotation responsibilities. There are several points during each year at which this staff member may be required to work evenings and weekends (e.g. “all hands” events such as move-in weekend, closing processes, RA selection). This staff member will also be required to be available by phone to respond to issues impacting the community for which they are responsible. This staff member will be expected to be present in the office from 9AM to 5PM every work day to provide continuity of service.
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, this position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are individuals at the University who, because of their function at the University, have an obligation under the Clery Act to notify the University of alleged Clery Crimes that are reported to them in good faith, or alleged Clery Crimes that they may personally witness. CSAs will be required to complete training with respect to the Clery Act and the responsibilities of a CSA.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s in Student Personnel Administration or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years previous residential experience, excellent leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills required. This is considered a mid-level student affairs management position.
- Position will require excellent communication, both verbal and written.
- Requires facility with database management and MS Office programs. Requires ability to learn and adapt to emerging technologies.
- This is a “live on” position. The staff member will be required to live in a university owned/leased apartment at no rental cost to the staff member.
- The costs of basic utilities will be covered by the university. In the event that residency for this position changes to “live off”, the staff member will be required to live within a 15 minute walking commute from the downtown campus area.
Work Hours
9 to 5, M-F evening and weekend hours (and/or responsiveness by phone or email) are often required
Salary Range
$56,000 - $61,000
