The director of development works with Metropolitan Community College (MCC) Foundation, the College, and community partners to strategically plan, organize, and direct all of MCC Foundation’s fundraising including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. The director of development works with advancement team leadership to create an annual development and stewardship plan and collaborates with MCC Foundation personnel and board to execute. This position works with MCC marketing to initiate and execute donor communications. The director of development collaborates with MCC Foundation and College personnel to ensure compliance with all assigned project requirements and manages reporting of departmental outcomes.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS :
1. Leadership. Design a comprehensive annual development strategy, identifying goals, funding targets, and tactics. Collaborate with the director of grants to manage the foundation’s annual solicitation calendar based on MCC Foundation board priorities and MCC Mission Achievement Plan. Provide fundraising, sponsorship, and alumni relations oversight and management, including supervision of alumni and annual giving associate. Provide counsel to the executive director and board in the effective execution of all single- and multi-year resource development activities. Assist the executive director with the oversight of foundation strategic planning, annual budget development and administration, and policies and procedures.
2. Fundraising. Responsibilities include coordinating prospect research, creating overarching cases for support, and managing proposal development process. Research and analyze corporate, individual, and alumni donors to understand their capacity and philanthropic interests and engagement. Partner with director of grants to research and analyze foundation prospects. Prepare and present proposals or gift agreements, including major gifts, planned gifts, and annual or capital campaigns. Coordinate staff and volunteer efforts related to MCC Foundation-led fundraising events and activities. Consistently track and report progress toward overall and segmented financial and programmatic goals. Present the Mission of MCC, and a wide array of giving opportunities to prospective donors using professional materials and presentation methods, including group presentations.
3. Marketing and Communications. Meets regularly with MCC marketing team to define and execute annual campaign materials and donor/alumni solicitations and communications to ensure donor-centric wording and philanthropic relevance. Works with MCC personnel as assigned to develop effective and compelling cases for support for use in grants, scholarship proposals, marketing and other communications. Lead the maintenance of the MCC Foundation webpages. Work with the assistant director of advancement to create and track fundraising appeals in the donor management system.
4. Donor Stewardship. Design, implement and manage a systematic and integrated information tracking process regarding acknowledgement, recognition, on-going communications and continued cultivation of past, current, and prospective donors. Work with Foundation team to develop and maintain donor communication materials. Supports the annual scholarship reception and other events. Ensures proper and timely submission of records in donor management system.
5. Represents the Foundation on various College councils, committees and community committees as assigned.
6. Attend work activities or programs as scheduled or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Supervisory experience.
2. Applied understanding of basic fundraising principles and development best practices.
3. Demonstrated skill in campaign management, fundraising, resource development, and donor relations.
4. Demonstrated skill in researching, planning, organizing, drafting, and editing written proposals and cases for support and subsequently report on outcomes.
5. Knowledge and experience dealing with gift agreements, insurance, wills, trusts, and other charitable giving vehicles.
6. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills that are effective with a diverse range of audiences including board members, staff, potential funding partners and all constituencies.
7. Ability to make professional and compelling public presentations.
8. Applied understanding of creating, executing, and supporting a donor stewardship plan.
9. The ability to work independently or as part of a team; detail oriented, organized, with a high level of initiative.
10. Prior experience in working with a donor management system required; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
11. Proficient with Microsoft Office software application skills.
12. Demonstrated leadership skills at the departmental and institutional levels.
13. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
14. Knowledge of IRS regulations governing nonprofits.
15. Ability to read, understand, and appropriately act upon technical documents and written instructions.
16. Ability to use personal computers, printers, scanners, copier, and other office equipment.
17. Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and understanding in stressful situations, and to work with diverse internal and external constituents.
18. Ability to exert up to 10lbs occasionally.
19. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Bachelor’s degree in related field, with five years of successful experience in development, including major and/or planned gift fundraising.
Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.

Certified Fund-Raising Executive a plus.
