The Institute for Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at Colorado State University develops and coordinates an array of co-curricular programming that enriches existing strengths in research and teaching across multiple disciplines to provide students with the knowledge, practical skills, and applied learning experiences to succeed as entrepreneurs. The Institute has built a venture development platform based on the “Zero Barriers” approach to entrepreneurship, ensuring that our program is provided for as close to free as possible for all students, staff, faculty, and community members. The Institute for Entrepreneurship is a hub for entrepreneurship across campus, offering co-curricular experiences and training to the entrepreneurial community at Colorado State University that fosters venture creation and entrepreneurial mindset development. Through this strong cross-campus collaborative initiative, an entrepreneurial environment is fostered in every college across campus.

In addition, to serving campus, the entrepreneurship institute serves as a portal for engaging the broader entrepreneurial community to develop and deliver programs. An Institute for Entrepreneurship board, managing a large network of mentors, and maintaining partnerships with other entrepreneurial centers across the state fall under the purview of the Institute.

This position is a full-time 12-month position with a 2 year term, renewable contingent upon available funding, continued business needs, and satisfactory performance in the role.

Position Summary
Based in Denver, at the new Spur facility, The College of Business’ Director of Community Impact will be responsible for determining how to best leverage CoB and CSU assets to provide value added programming for our corporate and community partners with an emphasis on opportunities at the Spur campus.

The Director for Community Impact will be responsible for fostering new relationships and opportunities, while growing community support and engagement for existing initiatives and programs. This includes speaking at events, participating in partner after hours networking and events, as well as attending major Institute events.

The role will work closely with executives and industry experts and others to secure new long-term contracts, provide opportunities for partners, faculty and others to engage in thought-leadership activities that support knowledge creation for research and the classroom, and create new venues to disseminate this knowledge

The Director provides support to the Institute by engaging program partners at Spur, external partners, donors, and community members, identifying their needs, and engaging them in programming and mentorship of Institute startups.

Additional responsibilities include sourcing new program and relationship opportunities for co-curricular programming & growing corporate partnerships. The Director will also aid in identifying and soliciting sponsorships and donor support for programming, as well as promoting event attendance amongst partners.

Other duties include ability to work autonomously in a fast paced team environment, and a general enthusiasm for building a culture and community of entrepreneurship across the front range. Long term, this role will be responsible for the development and execution of the statewide expansion of our “Zero Barriers” approach to entrepreneurship, ensuring that we’re supporting all communities across Colorado, in accordance with our Land Grant mission.

Required Job Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in a business development role
  • A minimum of 1 years of professional experience in an entrepreneurial environment
  • A minimum of 4 year of professional experience in community building and relationship management
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and evening hours when needed
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast paced team environment
  • Ability to travel across the state up to 20% of the time
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a license by the employment start date

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • A graduate degree in business, engineering, agriculture, or related field from an accredited university
  • Previous experience working in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated success in building donor, partner, and corporate relationships
  • Demonstrated success in growing financial sponsorships and donor engagement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the region’s business and entrepreneurial environment

  • Expand the Institute for Entrepreneurship presence, reputation, and relationships in the Denver ecosystem, and greater Colorado region.
  • Develop new relationships and assess new partnership opportunities for the Institute with partners at Spur
  • Achieve an annual economic development goal of 250K in unique partnership opportunities and sponsorships, including public private partnerships.
  • Support Institute programming by sourcing project work, partners, and mentors
  • Create & execute on a plan to leverage institute programming to support the broader Colorado community in partnership with the CSU Extensions Office.
  • Support the development team with the networking of high net worth alumni and donors, and identifying opportunities to engage them in Institute programming and events.
  • Work Spur partners to attend events withCoB corporate partners and identify ways to get them further engaged with institute programming and events.
  • Identify metrics to quantify Institute impact in the community to assess effectiveness of programs and interventions.
  • Oversee delivery and scaling of Entrepreneurship programming in region
  • Works with clients to diagnose challenges and develop programs that meet client needs in terms of content and delivery method.
  • Manage large event development (speakers, venues, sponsorships, partnerships).
  • Plan, oversee, and execute Spur program plan in partnership with OEE, Ag and other Spur partners

  • Collaborate with the Director of Entrepreneurship to develop a strategic plan that provides guidance for new target markets, areas of content and innovative delivery methods for I4E programming at Spur in conjunction with SPUR leadership.

  • Negotiate contracts for services, with understanding of purchasing rules and COB financial processes.
  • Develop and provide oversight of budgets of $100,000.
  • Manage team of professionals and identify opportunities for growth and realignment.
  • Responsible for hiring, performance management, and supervision of staff for non-credit programs.
  • Work with Institute, University, and Spur leadership to guide E&I programming with an emphasis on climate and ag accelerators.
