Planet Aid is seeking a full-time Director of Communications who will report to the CEO, in our Corporate Office located in Elkridge, MD (The position is on-site).
The Director of Communications will lead a team of Marketing and Content Specialists and is responsible for developing and implementing Planet Aid’s communication strategy, including creating, unifying and communicating our strategic positioning and messaging, both internally and externally. The role will support executive leadership as a communications advisor and strategist and lead media and community relations, internal communications, thought leadership, and reputation management through a variety of platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop and execute corporate communications strategies and plans, and serve as company spokesperson.
- Drive and manage the creation of high impact stories for use with news media, analysts and other key audiences and influencers.
- Develop new and enhanced thought leadership content and communications programs.
- Guide media relations.
- Lead and motivate a team to produce high-level, brand-driven content.
- Oversee creation and distribution of high quality press releases, working closely with internal experts and resources, and ensuring approvals are secured as needed and appropriate.
- Enhance reach and impact of our messages via social media.
- Oversee and manage communication support consultants and agencies when appropriate.
- Advise and support leadership team on strategy and implement communication plans for important internal communication, such as messaging, branding and change management, via various company-wide communication methods.
- Advise executive team and implement plans in the event of crises/issues that may affect brand or reputation.
- Implement key communications policies, protocols, and guidelines.
- Oversee communications measurement, including the design and operation of relevant dashboards.
- Ensure quality and review of all communications products.
- Design and develop internal and external materials; from flyers to annual reports, from photo essays on Instagram to videos for YouTube and events.
- Develop content in specialty areas related to new projects and the organization’s mission.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field; Journalistic background preferred.
- EXPERIENCE: Eight to ten years of similar or related experience leading teams and directing Communications and Marketing. Proven track record maintaining strong relationships with constituents and business partnerships.
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be fluent in English.
- OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Expert-level computer skills and applications such as Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point). Organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline or in a fast-paced environment. The technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms and also create web and mobile content.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand or sit, and frequently required to walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office setting; travel required to conferences, meetings and training as necessary (15%-25%).
