We are searching for a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead WiTricity’s Mechanical design function. The team consists of full-time and external resources responsible for design, prototyping, and manufacturing of WiTricity’s Halo Charging Products and Reference designs. We are seeking an individual with product, industrial design, and manufacturing experience in addition to experience managing and leading a team.

This is a key position as WiTricity brings to market the world’s first Electric Vehicle wireless charging system. We are transforming a prototype system into an attractive, serviceable, costed down, mass producible product that can be sold world-wide. As the product will be placed indoor and outdoor, it will need to meet challenging requirements for temperature, weather, drive-over, and safety.

Responsibilities:

• Lead WiTricity’s Mechanical Engineering team consisting of internal and external resources located domestic and internationally
  • Manage a team of 3 – 6 mechanical design engineers responsible for the simulation, design, and execution of ground and vehicle side mechanicals
  • Support internal operations team responsible for build, assembly, and test of small quantity system shipments
  • Manage external suppliers responsible for delivery of custom parts during the prototyping phase
  • Support & collaborate with peers in electrical design and software
  • Support & collaborate with design partners responsible for mechanical and industrial design of the product
  • Support & collaborate with manufacturing partners to introduce product into mass production
  • Initiate continuous improvement through training, seminar, and other learning strategies
• Own, cultivate, and enhance the mechanical design & development process
  • Institute best practices
  • Create and drive schedule
  • Ability to be hands-on with the team to resolve challenges
• Overall responsibility for the mechanical design process, including specifications, architecture, design, development, test, and debug of components used in WiTricity’s Wireless Power Electric Vehicle system
• Work with Program and Engineering Management to ensure product is developed that meets functional, quality, and schedule commitments
• Work with Product Management and the Executive team to establish strategic plans and objectives regarding roadmap
  • Ability to anticipate strategic challenges in product design/pre-production process and propose solutions
  • Advocate and influence product management/program management decisions and schedules based on best practices

Requirements:

• BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 8+ years of Mechanical design experience
• 3+ years in a Leadership Role including people management
• Experience with the following:
  • Industrial, automotive, or consumer products
  • SolidWorks or similar mechanical CAD program
  • Industrial Design, Electrical Design, and Software Development
  • Manufacturing and production products
  • Working in a small company (<100 people)
  • UL, FCC, and other regulatory standards
  • Power Electronics products (>1KW)
  • Latest advances in materials and manufacturing techniques.
• Experience developing products for the industrial and automotive markets are strongly preferred
• Must have a can-do attitude with experience managing a small team as well as directing external resources responsible for industrial design, component suppliers, testing, and manufacturing
