ABOUT THE FLOCK
bluebird bio's external affairs team is building confidence and conviction in bluebird and our ability to deliver on our mission to bring patients and their families more bluebird days. This committed, focused, and fun flock is looking for our newest team member to lead our government affairs and alliance development strategy. Come work with a dedicated, expert group of birds and contribute to a purpose-driven organization that is shaping the future of gene therapy.
HOW YOU'LL FLY
You'll help to bring more patients their bluebird days by:
- Leading development and execution of a government affairs and alliance development strategy for bluebird bio, focused on issues that differentially impact the development of, and access to FDA-approved, gene therapy, with a specific focus on sickle cell disease.
- Maximizing bluebird's participation in external alliances and trade associations, including representing bluebird's voice in key forums focused on shaping relevant public policies that impact gene therapies, health inequities and improving care for rare disease patients.
- Advocating in front of key government stakeholders, including federal lobbying on bluebird's behalf and ensuring bluebird is appropriately represented in federal government and policy forums; coordinate with state efforts as needed.
- Identifying and supporting the implementation of public policies that support bluebird's gene therapy portfolio and improve care and access to advanced therapies for the rare disease community, particularly those living with sickle cell disease.
- Partnering with cross-functional partners across External Affairs and other core functions including Market Access, Commercial, Medical and Regulatory Affairs to ensure alignment with company goals and areas of focus.
- Assembling and managing a small team of consultants who can inform and support our government affairs, public policy and alliance priorities.
- Advising internal stakeholders on the policy environment and emerging trends, with a focus on their impact on bluebird's business and the patients, families and providers we aim to support.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
You're the bird we're looking for if you have:
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years' experience in public policy, alliance development or government affairs, preferably within the biotech, pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
- Think outside of the box and across both sides of the aisle.
- A solutions-oriented mindset and a proven ability to flex across the public policy, alliance development and government affairs disciplines.
- Deep knowledge of health policy and/or federal and state reimbursement policy, preferably in rare disease, and a passion for improving health equity.
- Ability to see – and connect with – the big picture and to succinctly summarize and connect functional issues with organizational priorities and strategy.
- Highly skilled at building relationships – from internal stakeholders to external community leaders.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence, cooperation, and the incorporation of multiple points of view.
- Ability to embrace change and multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment.
- Outcomes oriented with a learning mindset – constantly adjusting and accounting for the external environment; personal commitment to high performance and continuous improvement.
Role could include travel up to 20% of the time.
