The Design and Communications Specialist will apply art, design, and copy layout skills to create visually engaging concepts such as logos, promotional and branding materials, communication media, and other print and digital materials. The ideal candidate will also be a strong writer and editor contributing to development publications including professional and corporate updates. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about Medora and the North Dakota Badlands, has a flexible schedule, and is a multi-faceted communicator.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Creates designs for TRMF that visually communicate desired product or project messages. Designs may be used in various visual media including magazines, billboards, advertising, restaurant menus, and product packaging.
• Creates various layouts, iconography, package designs, website designs, logos, and illustrations according to internal client specifications.
• Strong understanding and skill to produce video, photo, written, and audio content.
• Coordinate the workflow and publish calendar for fundraising updates and appeals through press releases, blog posts, annual reports, and three time annually distributed newsletter.
• Collaborates with staff, marketing and communications director/or other project participants to understand project assignment, audience, and intended message.
• Creates original visual media that communicates the desired feeling or message in an engaging and unified way.
• Chooses graphics, clip art, and stock photography, as appropriate.
• Selects fonts for written copy; produces sample layout for approval by client or other project participants.
• Creates rough drafts and sketches of concept and presents to client for further discussion and revision.
• Participates in collaborative revision and approval process until final design is approved.
• Consults with marketing and communications manager/or other team members as needed on complex or specialized projects.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Extremely proficient in image editing and digital animation and illustration software such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software.
• Extensive knowledge of print, electronic, and graphics media.
• Superior artistic and design skills.
• Organized with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently on an assignment.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required; major or significant coursework in Art, Graphic Design, or related disciplines highly preferred.
• At least three years of related work experience highly preferred.

Work Environment

This position is in an office environment. Evenings, weekends and holidays required from April through October.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., this position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.
