Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
· Teach in the laboratory on a scheduled basis.

· Be available for student as scheduled.

· Assist Dental Assistant Program Coordinator in maintaining any equipment used by the students.

· Assist students in applying their didactic knowledge to practical experience.

· Maintain academic laboratory procedure time logs for student during their laboratory time.

· Submit student evaluations and comments to their prospective class instructor daily, and all other required reports/documentation to the program coordinator per established procedures.

· Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and/or lab.

· Notify the Dental Program Coordinator of any current or potential problems which warrant his/her attention.

· Complete performance-based teacher education modules as assigned by the Dental Program Coordinator or as needed based on outcomes of classroom observations, instructor evaluations, and student completed surveys.

· Actively utilize proven retention techniques approved by the school.

· Coordinate skills labs for the students under the guidance of the classroom instructor/Dental Program Coordinator.

· Attend and/or conduct in-service training, faculty meetings or other mandatory meetings.

· Alert the classroom instructor and/or the Dental Assistant Program Coordinator if a student fails to comply with laboratory procedures, displays unsatisfactory progress, and/or Student Code of Conduct violations.

· Alert the classroom instructor and/or Dental Program Coordinator verbally and in writing of any student that does not comply with the Infection Control, Hazardous Materials protocols, or become injured before, during or after a laboratory procedure.

· Complete restorative, oral surgery, endodontic, advance periodontic, and prosthodontic procedures on the typodonts only.

· Monitor and assist student completion progress and/or complete preventative procedure using the typodont and/or student patients. All student patients must complete a health/dental history questionnaire. The questionnaire will be maintained by the Dental Program Coordinator.

· Write a prescription for any dental x-rays taken on human patients and complete a documented extraoral/intraoral exam. Ensure all patients are given a resource sheet as to where they may receive free, low-cost or discounted definitive dental treatment.

· Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the Dental Program Coordinator.

Education and/or Experience

· Must have a minimum of three years related practical work experience in the subject.

· Must demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge and continuing study of the subject matter.

· Must present a professional image and conduct himself/herself in the same manner.

· Must be able to effectively communicate with staff, faculty and students.

· Must work well under pressure, multi-task and have good organizational skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, prefer CampusVue.

· Ability to work/teach flexible hours including evening.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

· Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) required.

· Active License of Dentistry for Commonwealth of Virginia.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
