Job Overview:

• Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
• Ensure that all costumes used by performers for character appearances, shows, parades, productions, and other entertainment efforts are stage ready and maintain brand integrity, are in working order, and maintain a top-quality appearance and condition.
• Costumes may include but are not limited to various types of clothing, outfits, and garments; company issued undergarments; mascot style characters and headpieces; overlays; wigs and headdresses; footwear and outerwear; accessories; and wearable, in-hand, and carried accessories.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the cleaning, care, and maintenance of costumes to include laundering, repairs, organization, inventory, storage, and preservation of all costume elements.
• Maintain adequate stock and inventory of construction and repair materials.
• Take measurements, assign costumes, complete instruction cards, affix garment identification tags, and troubleshoot performer concerns.
• Construct new costumes, overlays, or components using patterns and/or detailed instructions.
• As needed, attend dress rehearsals and support performers with dressing and quick changes.
• Ensure the cleanliness and organization of costuming areas by performing opening and closing duties and maintaining workstations throughout the shift.
• Work in partnership with stage managers, event producers, coordinators, specialists, and other costuming staff with a positive and supportive attitude.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with Ambassadors, Vendors and our Guests
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Occasionally assist other locations and areas in the park as needed.

Qualifications:

• At least 18 years old
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience with costume construction, repair, or maintenance of costumes and/or wardrobe elements.
• Successful candidates will have seamstress or tailoring experience that required the ability to alter, mend, take in or let out, hem, lengthen, modify, and construct garments articles according to the specifications and needs.

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Competencies:

• Highly skilled at Sewing, cutting fabric, and machine operation with a sound knowledge of various fabrics, materials, and sewing techniques.
• Ability to take performer’s measurements and determine costume sizes, as well as read and understand patterns, renderings, and instructions for costume construction.
• Experience operating various equipment such as different types of sewing machines and sergers, Cricut, embroidery machines, irons and pressing machines.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination, documentation, and time management.
• Working knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Office, and Excel.
• While not required, the following competencies are a plus: pattern construction, hand-embroidery, fabric painting, airbrushing, the ability to create mock-ups or renderings of new costume designs.

Responsibility for Others:

• Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety requirements
• Maintain frequent open communication with all Entertainment Department leadership and management regarding costuming needs, repairs, availability, and updates.
• Maintain, standard operating procedures, verbal and written instructions, and guidance from department leadership.
• Ensure that all equipment is in safe and operational order and maintain an organized and tidy workspace.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
• Regular use of hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed.
• Stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing)
• Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and cold/heat temperature extremes
• Perform cleaning duties; including use of cleaning chemicals
• Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities.
• Additional Personal Protective Equipment (face shields, goggles, gloves, etc.) may be required at times

Availability:

• Available to work varying shifts or hours based on park hours, i.e. be able to work opening and closing shifts, nights, weekends, and Holidays.
• Consistent availability for a minimum of three days, preferably with one weekend day each week.

Training:

• Park wide trainings including Implicit Bias, safe vehicle use, blood borne pathogens, and others as needed or required. Training may occur in person or virtually using an onsite company computer.

• Work indoors and in outside weather conditions (i.e., direct sunlight, wet and/or humid)
• Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels.
• Must be able to manage time wisely and set priorities effectively.
• Able to positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.
• Must be comfortable working in areas where performers may be in various stages of dress/undress.

Compensation: $17.50 per hour
