We are seeking a Corrosion Lab Tech to join our Sacramento, CA team!

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Materials/Corrosion Lab Technician will perform typical laboratory testing on a variety of materials associated with the construction of roadways, bridges, and other structures to ensure materials and products used in Bridge and Roadway construction projects comply with contract requirements.

Specific job assignments may include performing laboratory testing of soils, and concrete; performing analysis of data to compare Caltrans Test (CT) methods with other national standards such as American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), or methods developed by other state agencies; and maintaining reporting requirements of test data in approved database for reporting purposes.

This work includes receiving and logging in materials, data collection and reduction, making mathematical calculations, record keeping, test specimen preparation, and the set-up, operation of the test equipment, and distribution of samples to other units.

Participates in lab safety related tasks and drills as required. Methods are employed and followed to meet requirements of the A2LA Laboratory Accreditation Program.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering . Ability to get California Professional Engineer license within 2 years a plus.

2 - 5 years of relevant construction materials sampling and testing, including performing laboratory testing of soils, and concrete , and perform ing analysis of test data , including evaluation of c

Materials or Corrosion Engineering experience a plus

NACE Coating Inspector, ACI field and/or lab testing technician desired but not required.

Technical Requirements:
Strong Microsoft Office experience (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)

Highly organized with strong analytical skills

Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with laboratory and management personnel.

Experience performing California Test methods (CTM’s) desired but not required.

Familiar with ASTM, AASHTO and other materials test methods.

Familiar with Caltrans Standard specifications.

The incumbent must have general knowledge of the physical characteristics and properties of various engineering construction materials. Must be able to follow procedures listed in test methods, have the ability to test materials, maintain records, develop and analyze engineering data using sound judgment, and prepare technical reports and correspondence. Employee must be able to utilize mathematics to make calculations using percentages or ratios and plot data to evaluate test results. Must be able to perform evaluations and make conclusions pertaining to the development of materials specifications. Employee must have the ability to interpret specifications, analyze and check all necessary test reports on materials incorporated in the work for conformity to applicable specifications.

Employee must have the ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with his/her supervisor, client personnel and the public.

Employee must be able to Identify problems and use logical analysis to find information, understand causes, and evaluate and select or recommend best courses of action.

Employee must have the ability to establish and maintain good and professional working relationships with other client units, industry, and the contractor on roadway construction projects. Employee must be familiar and able to follow Atlas and client policies and procedures.

Other miscellaneous qualities:
This is a regular, full-time position, the typical work week will be 40 hours per week Monday through Friday. Some overtime will be required during the busy season.

The employee must be in good physical condition, capable of standing, climbing, stooping and performing physical tasks, which includes lifting up to 65 pounds and moving relatively heavy loads up to 100 pounds. Employee will be required to sustain the mental activity needed for conducting tests and calculating results. Problem solving, analysis and reasoning skills are required to respond appropriately to situations and to develop and maintain cooperative working relationship

Reports to Sacramento area lab with some travel, generally in state, less than 10% time.

Compensation:
$40 - $55 Hourly

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
