This position #60070906 is located at Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield, NC. Johnston is a Minimum Custody male facility. Applicants will need to have verbal/written communication with staff, inmates, and the general public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Monitor off-site programs, which may require operation of a motor vehicle in a safe/secure manner at any time of day and in varying weather and road conditions. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent/verbally abusive. Conduct continuous/audio surveillance of assigned work areas. Accurately operate office machines. Prepare written report/forms which demonstrate/instruct inmates in the proper safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies. Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation and personal observation. Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. Effectively train, observe, evaluate, and supervise subordinate staff in their duties and responsibilities. Account for supplies and equipment. Develop, implement, and manage Correctional Programs. This position requires working some evening hours, some weekends, and some holidays.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
