Position Summary
This position is responsible for the supervision of personnel engaged in guarding, escorting, and otherwise maintaining security within the Shelby County Correction Center.

Pay Grade: 49 Minimum Qualifications
100.00% - 1. Three (3) years of uninterrupted experience as a Corrections Officer in a correctional facility or direct security experience at a correctional facility; and

2. High school diploma or possess a GED.

3. Successful applicants in the promotion process will be required to satisfactorily complete a written exam, an oral interview, and an employment history review leading to selection as a candidate finalist for a six (6) month candidate finalists training period, which must be completed satisfactorily.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supervises assigned areas in the day-to-day operation of the Shelby County Corrections Center and observe other areas for discrepancies.

2. Aids the Shift Commander and other members of staff in insuring that all officers assigned to his/her shift comply with County Policy and policies established by the Director.

3. Establishes and maintains work schedules.

4. Checks for prompt submission, completion, and accuracy of all reports, which must be completed.

5. Promotes and maintains high morale among Correctional Officers.

6. Reports any irregularities or emergencies to appropriate personnel.

7. Performs other related duties as required or directed. KSA's
KSAs - 1. Knowledge of established policies, procedures, and regulations regarding the supervision of both employees and inmates.

2. Ability to instruct subordinates in completing necessary forms and reports.

3. Must possess all knowledge and ability of a Correctional Officer

4. Ability to interpret policy and procedure to the situation.

5. Ability to advise and counsel officers of lesser grade.

6. Ability to train personnel.

7. Ability to assign individuals for best overall utilization. Special Requirements
1. Must be able to work in a prison environment.

2. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver"s license or secure one by date of employment.

3. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.

4. Must be available for shift, evening, and weekend work, as required.

5. Must compete in the promotional examination process.
6. Credit for experience will be given until the first date of promotional exam.
7. Any applicant with a disciplinary action, within the last eighteen months, resulting in a suspension will not be eligible for promotional consideration. Disclaimer
