DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Position #60072295 located at Johnston Correctional Institution, a minimum custody male facility located in Smithfield, N.C. Employees in this position carry a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of inmates, often at a large facility or institution, such as inmate work assignments, work release, education or recreation; as well as transition, planning and coordinating. Employees are responsible for preparing written reports/forms, reviewing, analyzing and evaluating various document and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documents, personal observation. Positions are responsible for performing crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention; accounting for supplies or equipment; developing, implementing, and managing applicable correctional programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

These KSAs, along with the minimum education and experience listed, are required in order to be deemed "eligible" for the position. Therefore, you must demonstrate through documented experience or provide supporting information within the body of your application to demonstrate your possession of ALL KSAs listed.
Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
