Job Summary:
The Cook I works as an essential team member of the Food Services department preparing high quality hot and cold food items for inpatients requiring therapeutic diets, cafeteria customers, and catering functions. High standards of food safety and sanitation and provision of excellent customer service are maintained at all times.

Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
- Education: High school diploma of equivalent. Confirmation of completion is required within 90 days of hire.
- Experience: One year of experience as a Cook. Experience in an institutional setting preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Must obtain an Alaska Food Worker Card or ServSafe certification within 60 days of hire.
- Other: Must be at least 18 years of age
- Knowledge of large quantity food preparation.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language to interpret documents such as recipes, menus, meal tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and logs, and procedure manuals.
Please note: In lieu of fringe benefits, casual employees receive a $2 an hour casual differential in addition to their hourly base rate of pay. Casual employees are in an on-call status and will not be scheduled to work a full time schedule for more than four (4) consecutive months or more than 780 hours annually. Casual employees must work a minimum of one (1) shift within a 90 day period to maintain status and employment
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
