DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Information and Educational Technology (IET) often acts as a technology consultant and project manager to the campus and individual departments. The objective is to advise the campus as to the appropriate application of technology in solving business problems, and to manage critical campus projects which implement information technologies.

As a member of the IET Project Management Office (PMO) team, this position provides project support across IET within any of the four IET units – Academic Applications, Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS), Information Security Office (ISO), and Operations.

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Manager, Project Management Office and general guidance of a senior project manager, this position acts as a project manager and analyst, coordinating with departmental leadership and campus partners. Plans, builds and implements technical solutions by leading cross-functional teams through each phase of the project management process, applying broad knowledge of project management methodologies, best practices, PMO standards and practices to manage projects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional travel required. Travel between campus and off-campus locations.
  • Due to the mission-critical services provided by this department, this position may work hours other than M-F 8-5, especially in response to system problems. Work flexible or extended hours as workload demands.
  • Must be routinely on-call as required.
  • Vacation is restricted during peak work periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Experience leading a team through the development and implementation of a planned project; developing documentation appropriate for the stages of project management; developing resource requirements and plans for contingencies, change management, communications planning and management, operational transition and risk management plans.
  • Experience applying one or more project management or software development methodologies – Waterfall, Agile Scrum, hybrid – to manage projects and coordinate project teams.
  • Experience using written and verbal communication skills to present concepts and recommendations to technical and nontechnical individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Experience working with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project, Google Apps, Box.com, Smartsheet, and other project management tools.
  • Knowledge of PM processes and best practices based on PMBOK or similar project management framework.
  • Analytical skills to learn unfamiliar processes and procedures; translate knowledge into new context; interpret, compare and contrast facts; order, group, and infer causes; document consequences; use appropriate analytical methods, concepts, and theories for technology projects; classify and organize data; deconstruct components; generalize from facts; combine and relate knowledge from several areas; compare and discriminate between ideas; make choices based on reasoned argument; and to verify the value of evidence.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to quickly learn about, technology architecture, networks, hardware technologies, software development, security services, workflow technology, database tools, desktop technology, and business process analysis.

Preferred:

  • PMP or CAPM Certification, Agile Scrum Master certification, and/or ITIL Certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience as a project manager managing enterprise-wide, complex information technology projects.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy.
  • Experience working and collaborating with team members, stakeholders, sponsors, management and other project members.
