The Lift Garage is a nonprofit that offers people a vehicle out of poverty by providing low-cost car repair, free pre-purchase car inspections, and honest advice that supports our community on the road to more secure lives. We connect with community partners to strengthen the support network and link customers to needed resources. The Lift Garage is a car repair shop that has a unique blend of business and service with a high value on hospitality. The applicant for this position is not required to have a working knowledge of cars, car parts, car repairs, etc. Applicants should be able to prioritize tasks and balance multiple needs while maintaining a calm, kind, compassionate and hospitable environment for customers.

The Shop Support & Assistant position works closely with Auto Technicians and reports to the Operations Director. The following are typical job functions:

• Assist Technicians with test drive and vehicle inspections focused on safety and drivability, and responding thoroughly to customer’s service requests
• Assist Technicians with vehicle diagnostic and repair (no collision/body work, no transmission or heavy-duty engine repair)
• Perform Express Services for vehicles needing fluid top-offs, exterior bulb replacement, wiper blades, batteries, oil changes, etc.
• Provide thorough written and verbal documentation and communicate clearly and honestly with Service Writers about inspection findings, recommended car repairs and possible challenges to repair, and/or when vehicle is not worth investing in
• Organize incoming parts by repair order and deliver parts to Technicians
• Assist with moving vehicles in the parking lot and closing the shop at end of day
• Assist Shop Coordinator and Lead Technician with shop projects, as requested
• Help keep clean work areas and contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, safe shared shop space
• Follow all applicable local, state and federal laws regarding hazardous waste, motor vehicle operation, etc.

  Education and/or experience in auto repair
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and be on your feet for an 8-hour shift
• Ability to work independently and with teammates
• Ability to ask for help, communication skills and problem solving
• Time management, ability to multi-task and prioritize several tasks
• Valid MN driver’s license is not required at hire, although certainly a plus

Typical Work Hours:
Flexible within the hours of Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm
